Testing The Waters

Andy faced the gardener. The gardener Mr. Hennessey was in his forties. He had two small combat knives. They were bigger than Maq’s daggers but smaller than Heylian’s Katana. No matter how you see it, the one with the better weapon had the edge. Mr. Hennessey couldn’t possibly keep up with Andy swiftly as he used to. Neither of them made the first move. Andy was grinning. I thought that this was basically his very first and closest life and death encounter he had to face since he lost his memory. But that wasn’t the reason he was grinning. After shooting his gun a few rounds at targets and doing hand to hand combat with Kim this morning he was merely just excited to mesh do it both at the same time again. Andy made the first move. Whipping out his gun and shooting it thrice at Mr. Hennessey. He cut two with his blades and dodged one by moving sideways. Andy closed the distance by running towards him all the while shooting at him. The man was busy with cutting and dodging bullets he didn’t know how close Andy has gotten and when it finally hit him. Andy jabbed his gun straight towards Mr. Hennessey. There was a blade molded between the two barrels of the crossgun with a sharp tip protruding out the gun. Mr. Hennessey dodged it just barely but slipped and fell to the ground as a result. He immediately recovered by rolling a backflip on the floor and getting back up while also putting some distance between them. This time Mr. Hennessey attacked. He sliced and diced wit those two blades quicker than I’ve seen him hedge the weeds in the garden. One of them reached its mark but that was only because Andy stopped moving back but the price for a cut on his chin was seemed like a bargain when he grabbed ahold of Mr. Hennessey and jumped him with his left hand. Mr. Hennessey didn’t know how to react to being thrown in the air suddenly but that wasn’t the end of his surprises. Andy aimed his gun him and shot him three times. Hopefully at non vital places. He fell to the floor with a thud. When Andy stepped towards him I was worried for a split sec that he might’ve turned. But he just went over to lift him up. Heylian and the other made Julie came over to give him treatment kits. I felt bad no one was treating him and he had to do it himself. But one look at his old wrinkled face told me he didn’t trust anyone and preferred doing things himself. Kim was given a pass for his freakish strength and I can see why there were only three of them against for of us. Whatever the case I guess Kim felt relieved. He didn’t want to fight if anything. “Did I just rock or did I just rock?!!” Andy asked us still grinning and showing us his left hand full to the brim with electricity. “I don’t know how or why but I can just tell how many more times I can charge my hand to shoot electricity!” “I think shoot is an improper term in your case, seeing how you just made a man fly up in the air by just touching him indicates an irregular method of using electricity compared to how it’s portrayed in movies. So how many more times can you do that?” “Ummmm two.” He answered. Me and Andy both looked at each other and smiled. Maq was using big words to explain something simple that we just dismissed what he was saying and somehow he didn’t catch on. It made things really funny. Once Kim told us how he got a pass I realized I was the final guy to be tested. By that cook. I really hoped that he wouldn’t take it personally if I kick his ass cause who else would make me a chicken porridge with the yolk popped right after it was separated from the egg white while it was still raw? He used a long Bo Staff. It had short blades on the side of the edges instead at the tip like mines. But is was double sided. Mines only had a sharp tip on one side. On top of that he could swing that Bo staff like a pro. He was spinning it. That was a new trick I have yet to learn. Just by looking at him I knew that going on head first without a plan would fail. He was clear the better staff user in every way. But he didn’t know that my spear had tricks up it’s sleeve I twisted the bot grip left to charge it and release a big blast when I twisted it right. Then I twisted the top grip left and it grew longer and the tip started spinning. The cook obviously didn’t expect this. Because he was surprised. But his calm expression returned. He came in first. Swinging his spear really quick. I didn’t move back. I instead whipped my spear out and lashed it at his diagonally. I guess all that fancy spinning and swinging didn’t carry as much power as I did with my swing. I parried with him and he stopped his spinning. Ultimately stopping his train of combos. I took that advantage to spear at him with the spinning tip. He didn’t dodge, instead tried to slap away the tip of my spinning spear with his staff. It worked. But that wasn’t the end of it. I lifted my spear again and this time pulled myself back. I twisted the top grip right to further extend my spear and now it was flexible. It was time for that move. I took a running start to gain speed and pole vaulted. I got 4 meters above him. I spun, held onto my spear while I did so and aimed the tip just behind him. I didn’t aim it at him because I knew he’d dodged it so I aimed it at the spot where I anticipated he would go to dodge it. Right before the moment of impact at wherever the other end hit I twisted the bot grip right. And a giant blast echoed the room. The light was blinding and I couldn’t see what happened. When the dust settled and everyone else in the house came to the main hall to see what was all the commotion about, there I was, right dab in the middle of the room in front of a bloodied corpse.
