The harebrained scheme
I dreamed about Derek that night. Actually, it was more of a nightmare because Van and Derek were locked in a vicious love triangle with Lily. The jealousy overwhelmed me as I watched my cousin and the hot fireman vie for her attention. I woke up with a start, drenched in sweat, with the silky purple sheet and soft quilt tangled around my body.
Seeming to sense my distress, P.K. tentatively approached me. I reached out to scratch her ears. She purred and rubbed her head against me, silently forgiving me. “That’s right,” I told her quietly. “The fact that you love me proves that I must be worthy of it. Those silly old dogs will snuggle up with anyone, won’t they?”
