The little girl’s face refused to leave Mira’s mind.
It was her.
The same eyes.
The same smile.
The same blue dress she remembered from her fractured memories.
“Who are you?” Mira whispered.
The child tilted her head.
“I’m you.”
A sharp pain exploded behind Mira’s eyes.
She stumbled backward, clutching her head.
“No…”
Fragments of memories flooded her mind.
A white laboratory.
Machines humming.
Scientists rushing through glass corridors.
Her mother kneeling in front of her.
“Mira, if anything happens, never answer the second call.”
The vision vanished.
Mira gasped for air.
Adrian grabbed her shoulders.
“Your memories are breaking through.”
Victor stepped closer, his expression surprisingly gentle.
“Don’t fight them. You deserve to know who you really are.”
Before anyone could move, the little girl turned and walked toward the far wall of the chamber.
She placed her tiny hand against the concrete.
A loud mechanical click echoed through the room.
The wall slowly split open.
Behind it lay another room.
Unlike the dusty chamber, this room looked untouched.
Rows of glass cylinders lined the walls, each containing stacks of files and old cassette tapes.
Above the entrance, faded silver letters read:
MEMORY VAULT
Mira stepped inside.
Every cabinet was labeled with names.
Most had red stamps reading DECEASED.
Then she found one that made her stop.
LAWSON, MIRA
Status: ACTIVE
With trembling hands, she opened the drawer.
Inside was a sealed envelope marked:
To Mira—Open Only When You Remember.
She broke the seal.
A photograph slipped out.
It showed her as a child, standing between her mother… and Adrian.
They looked like a family.
She stared at Adrian.
“You knew me before Project Echo.”
He lowered his eyes.
“Yes.”
“You promised my mother you’d protect me.”
“I did.”
“Then why did you let me believe I was alone?”
Before Adrian could answer, Victor laughed.
“You still haven’t told her the biggest secret.”
Adrian’s face turned pale.
Victor looked directly at Mira.
“The reason Adrian protected you wasn’t because of a promise.”
He paused.
“It was because he was the one who made the call… the night your mother died.”
The room fell silent.
Mira slowly turned toward Adrian.
His silence was all the answer she needed.
Then her phone rang.
Unknown Number.
The screen displayed just three chilling words:
ANSWER ME, MIRA.
