Chapter Ten The van rocked and swayed as it plowed its way through the snow, the slush and the mud. Riding in the back, Marie did her best to hang on. There were no seats back here, and no windows, so she couldn’t see anything of the outside other than what was visible through the windshield. Since she was sitting on the floor, about all she could see was gray sky and the occasional darker gray bare tree branch. From time to time she could hear crows cawing. She was naked, except for her collar, and grateful that the van had a good heater. Three other young women shared the back of the van with her. She didn’t know any of them. They were as naked as she was, but none of them wore a collar. It was actually a little cozy back there. They’d been given a pile quilts to sit on, or wrap thems
