24. Embracing death

I wake up being dragged on the harsh hot sand by my left leg, agonizing pain radiating through my entire body. With much effort, I manage to lift my head only to see a grotesque creature having its teeth sunk into my now bleeding lower limb. We were in some kind of a cave, bright enough to see what's going on. I try to kick it off but all I gain is a growl. The creature was hungry, I could see his ribs, proof that it didn't eat in a long time. We came to a sudden stop and I hear more growling and snarling. With my heart beating like I've been running for hours, I grab my spear, which was fortunately still attached to my side, watching the two creatures fighting for their food.
