Father was right, this journey wasn't going to be an easy one, we hadn't advanced that far yet I was already exhausted.
But then I knew that I had a lot of expectations to fulfill, my men are looking up to me, I know this would provide the chance for me to earn their respect because I already know that they are watching my every move. I know some of them look up to me with disgust, they see me as never having worked a day in my life for anything, they're looking for a chance to ridicule me, to have something to talk about behind my back, they'd want nothing more than to see me broken.
But I'll never give them that satisfaction, they will always see me as a tough nut to c***k. Commander Lucien rides besides me, he navigates our way through this terrible weather to ensure that we make it to the camps on time.
We ride till it's too late to continue and we have to pause to rest for the night.
I wanted to make my tent at the far edge of the clearing but commander Lucien comes over to talk to me suggesting that I fix my tent at the center. I tell him I'm fine but he insists in a voice that shows that he wants no arguments.
I agree and he helps me pack my things over to the center to set up camp, the other men just lay on the bare floors. I know I want to make an impression but I feel more comfortable being in my own space and not laying out in the open.
once my tent is set up, I head inside, move to a corner and blow out the candles in order to change my clothes.
once I'm done changing I move to the animal skin rug which serves as my makeshift bed and lie down, I'm thinking about my day when I hear my name been called from outside.
I answer and then stand up from my makeshift bed. I'm about making my way out when commander Lucien tells me he brought my dinner, I accept it and thank him and we say our goodnights, I know it'll be nice if I join the men outside but I don't want to make them feel uncomfortable or rather have them stare at me and criticize one thing after another so I sit in my tent and have my food, once I'm done I just pish my tray to the right side and prep my self for the journey ahead tomorrow.
