Chapter 8: The Psychology Department “What a relief to start life over again from scratch! Nobody in Leningrad knew me and I knew nobody there. The little I took with me included, of course, my precious books, Pif and the little book of Pessoa poems in Portuguese – the material evidence of my identity.
