The Assassin

Chapter Ten

“What do you mean? I don’t.” Lucifer defended making Leo chuckled.

“Shane told me everything about you and Angel. You were the one who gave her the name ‘Angel’ right? The only reason why I accepted her on the Troupe was because of you. You deserve your own happiness as well. I think it’s time for you to let go of the past and think about the future. I’m sure she’ll be able to remember you one day but for now, maybe remind her of everything you used to do together.” Leo winked before leaving Lucifer.

Lucifer watched as Angel laughed with the female members in the group. That was his favourite thing that he always wanted to see before, her smile. It reminded him of the days where they used to run around, just the two of them, laughing like there’s no tomorrow, having fun like it will be the end of the world soon. 

Those were the days that Lucifer would want to do again. Whenever Angel would hurt herself, it was always him who treats her. Whenever Lucifer feels sad, Angel was always there for him ready to cheer him up. If one gets in trouble, the other one will join. They were like a twin that can’t be separated from each other.

“Yo bro, let’s go join Angel shall we? Introduce ourselves to her!” Shane put his arms around Lucifer and dragged him towards Angel.

“N-no!” Lucifer tried escaping but then Phinks went on his other side and helped Shane.

“Yeah let’s go and introduce ourselves shall we?” Phinks happily said as the three of them went to Angel.

“Hey Angel, I just want to introduce our friend Lucifer! I know the two of you didn’t have a proper introduction so now, you should shake hands and get to know each other!” Shane held Lucifer’s hand and reached for Angel’s one as well then connected them with each other.

As soon as Lucifer touched Angel’s hands, he felt something stirring inside him. Something that he felt a long time ago and up until now, he still couldn’t understand what it was.

“Nice to meet you Lucifer, I’m Angel. Nice to meet you Lucifer.” Angel said.

“I know.” Lucifer stated and Angel gave him a questioning look.

“You know me?” Angel asked and Lucifer flinched in surprise.

“N-no, what I mean is… I… I…” Lucifer tried reasoning out but he couldn’t think of anything.

“What he means is he does know you but he only sees you from far away because he was always busy doing… something else.” Shane helped his friend and Angel bought it.

“Oh, so he was at the orphan as well?” Angel was curious about Lucifer.

“Yes, the same time as us…” Lucifer gave Shane a glare. “But… like what I said, he was too busy to hang out with us so you two didn’t really get to know each other that much.”

“Ah, I see…” Angel nodded in understanding.

“Yeah, not so much that you can’t even separate the two of them.” Phinks murmured.

“Pardon?” Angel wanted to hear what Phinks just said. "I didn't really heard what you said."

“Did I say something?” Phinks pretended to be innocent then he fake yawn. “Oh my look at the time, I must go and take a rest.”

“So, what’s your role Lucifer?” Angel asked the raven-haired male. “Shane is the Hacker, Phinks is the Boxer, Patricia is the Gunner, Mary is the Nurse, Leo is the Leader, Kerri is the Eye, Uberto is the Shield, Kolleen is the Delayer and how about you?”

Lucifer still remembered the day when he confessed to Angel that he was an Assassin, back when they were still at the orphanage.

Flashback

Shane was trying to hack into the Fire water system. It was his first time doing the hacking and they plan to play pranks on everyone by setting the sprinkle off, which was successful. When the sprinkle went off, the three of them played around and treated it like a rain.

Lucifer was watching as Angel happily danced around the water. A smile made its way to his lip as Angel’s hair became wet which made her more attractive. Not long after, the head of the orphanage found out who set the alarm up and the four of them got in trouble. As punishment, they have to stay in a room for four hours, just like a detention when you get in trouble in school. 

“Shane that was cool!” Angel commented and they all cheered except for Lucifer.

He was a bit jealous everytime he sees Angel and Shane together. He doesn’t know why though.

“You should have seen the face of the head. She was like ‘Punishment for the four of you!’ as if I’ll be scared!” Shane mimics the head and they all laugh, except for Lucifer.

“I guess we have a Hacker and a Boxer on the group!” Angel pointed out.

“And a Defender.” Phinks stated as he pointed at Angel. “What about Lucifer?”

They all looked at Lucifer and waited for his reply. Shane and Phinks already know who he was but only Angel doesn’t.

“Phinks, what is that over there!” Shane pointed at something in the room and dragged Phinks with him, leaving Angel and Lucifer.

“So, what is your role?” Angel asked again and Lucifer was silent for a moment, thinking of how Angel would react if she found out that he was an Assassin.

He didn’t want to lose her when she finds out the truth, especially when he’s the one who murdered his own parents. Although he thinks about all the things that Angel told him, she was always honest to everyone so it’s also fair to tell her the truth.

“I’m… I am an Assassin.” Lucifer finally replied and there was silence between the two of them.

Lucifer already accepted the fact that Angel will hate him after this, he was used to losing friends anyway.
