Chapter 2

1872 Words
"Alice, is that right?" said Aunt Lin "I'll go take a look." As Alice approached, she saw the dark shadow and realized that it was a child, whose face was hidden by hair. She squatted down, brushing her hair aside, revealing a large gash on her forehead that was bleeding. She put her hand under the child's nose and detected a faint breath. "Not dead... Not dead is troublesome, but death is also troublesome. With a cold face, Alice picked her up with one hand and walked to the shore. "What a child," the two elderly men said with a trembling voice. "How is the child?" "He's not dead." "Let's hurry and take him to the hospital. There's no time to waste," said Uncle Zhang. Alice sighed impatiently. She did not possess the typical human concept of life and death. Having lived for hundreds of years, the lengthy years had worn away the sympathy in her heart, leaving only a barren void. But for those who are kind to her, she will reserve a bit of warmth from her cold heart. The two elderly people treat her well, and she has no reason to reject their kindness. "What about you?" Alice asked. "We'll just go back ourselves," said Aunt Lin, "we can't afford to delay." "Then you can put the things in my car, and I'll deliver them to you later." "Hey, okay." Alice placed the child in the back seat. The little girl's face was covered in blood, obscuring her features. Judging from her body shape, she was probably around seven or eight years old. The space inside the car was cramped, and the smell of blood permeated the air. Alice suddenly felt a surge of agitation, her mouth parched and throat dry, but she didn't think much about it. The child was lying in the back seat, shivering with cold and chattering her teeth. Alice, annoyed by the noise, decisively took off the little girl's wet clothes, took out a long sweater of her own from the car, and directly put it on her. Then, she took out a thick blanket and roughly covered her up. Instinctively, the child sought out the heat source and unconsciously approached Alice. A trace of blood from the child's forehead landed on Alice's hand. Alice felt disgusted and wanted to wipe it off, but she noticed that she didn't feel repelled by the blood. There was no tingling sensation in her body that she usually felt when in contact with other people's blood. She stared straight at the blood in her hand, and slowly, that red stain seemed to transform into a bloodsucking monster, stirring the craving factor in her blood. She licked her lips, feeling an extreme desire to drink blood. She hadn't felt such a longing for a long time. Every time I feel this longing, I still encounter a suitable blood source. Alice's heart stirred, and a greed akin to finding a long-awaited rain shower surged within her. She gazed at the trembling child, her eyes dark and unreadable. The development of Nanshan Ancient Town is not particularly impressive. It's merely a tourist town, lacking a major hospital. The doctor examined the child and bandaged her wound, then told Alice, "Overall, there's no major issue. It's just a bump on the back of her head, possibly with a moderate concussion. There might be transient amnesia upon waking up. For safety's sake, I suggest you take her to a major hospital for further examination." Alice nodded absentmindedly, her full attention focused on the child. The blood on her face was wiped clean, revealing a complete face. She had just felt a sense of familiarity, and now she finally knew where that familiarity came from. The little girl in front of her was clearly the heroine's younger sister, Evie, the child who only cried in her memory. Nanshan Ancient Town is far away from Lancheng, and it's a completely different direction. How could Ai Wei, a child, end up here, looking like a drowned dog? Would her sister really let her precious little sister go through such an ordeal? But what does this have to do with her? The little girl slowly woke up, blinking several times before opening her eyes. Her first sight was of Alice sitting on the bench with her arms crossed. Her slightly opened eyes suddenly widened, and she burst into tears unexpectedly. Alice: "..." This kid is sick. Alice hated it when children cried. With a face devoid of emotion, she would coldly order, "Shut up!" The little girl shrank back in fear, dazed for a few seconds by her yell, and then cried even harder, sobbing, "You... You are that bad woman who... who choked me by the neck." Alice curled her lips into a somewhat cold smile, which made the little girl want to cry even more. Seeing that the little girl was about to scream at the top of her lungs, Alice said impatiently, "If you cry again, I'll throw you out." This remark worked. The little girl stopped crying immediately, her eyes wide and pitiful, and she sobbed uncontrollably. "Where's your sister?" Alice asked. The little girl blinked in confusion. She was very beautiful, and even though a bandage was wrapped around her forehead, it couldn't hide her exquisite appearance like a sculpture made of jade and porcelain. Her moist eyes widened slightly, making her look extremely cute and eliciting a desire to protect her. Alice is not an ordinary person, lacking the so-called protective instinct. Seeing her acting like a fool, he tutted and impatiently scratched his long hair, "Asking about your sister? Where is she?" "I don't know," the little girl whispered. "What do you mean, 'I don't know'?" The little girl shrank back again, frightened by her stern and cold tone, and said in a tearful voice, "I don't know who my sister is." Alice was stunned for a second, then remembered something and asked, "You don't even know your sister's name? What about your parents?" The child thought for a moment and shook his head in frustration. Alice recalled what the doctor had just said about amnesia, and to her surprise, it had actually happened. "Then how do you remember me?" Alice asked, crossing her legs and tilting her head. "I don't know," the little girl replied honestly, her tone laced with a strong nasal twang. Alice sneered, "You don't remember your own parents, but you remember a stranger." "You are truly filial." After staying in the hospital for a while, Alice couldn't take it anymore. The faintly lingering bloody smell in the hospital oppressed her senses, and her pores felt disgusting as if swarmed by countless insects. The little girl doesn't know anyone here, so Alice has no choice but to take her along. Besides, this child's blood seems unusual. Perhaps it's worth investigating. Alice was scheming her own sinister plot. The little girl didn't know what she was thinking, only that she instinctively feared this seemingly beautiful woman. So when Alice pulled her out of the hospital, the little girl screamed and struggled to break free from her grasp, "I don't want to go with you. You're a bad person. I don't want to!" The people passing by in the hospital stared at Alice with scrutiny, as if they were looking at a human trafficker. Alice, who had little patience to begin with, was on the verge of losing it. But she couldn't afford to lose her temper in front of so many people. So, she squatted down, gently touched the little girl's face, smiled slightly, and softened her tone, saying, "Little girl, if you don't want to come with me, then you can stay here by yourself. If you get kidn*pped, I won't be responsible." The little girl, with tears still in her eyes, blinked her eyes and tried hard to understand her words. Children's minds are easily swayed. Seeing that she was softening, Alice curled her lips into a smile and said sternly, "So if you cry to me again, I'll just throw you into the river." The little girl was not foolish. At the moment, she didn't know anyone except for this bad woman in front of her. She was afraid to be alone in the crowd, so she could only follow her, sobbing and crying, without daring to let out a loud cry. She felt extremely wronged. When it rains in the narrow alley, the stones become slippery, and the street lamps cast a dim yellow light. A little girl, wearing wet shoes and holding an umbrella much bigger than herself, walks unsteadily. Alice walked ahead with one hand in her pocket, feeling slightly dizzy and her vision a bit blurry. This is a consequence of her prolonged exposure to the bloody scent of others. Previously, she did not suffer from such issues after drinking blood, but after nearly a century without consuming blood, her resistance has gradually declined. She thought that she must quickly find a suitable blood source. "Pa da——" A sound echoed from behind. Alice turned around to see the little girl falling to the ground. Her mouth fell into a pout, and she was about to cry again. Alice spoke up to stop her, "Shut up and don't cry." She walked over, frowning, and said, "You just know how to cry. You can't even walk properly. You're useless." It was raining quite heavily, and Alice didn't want to delay. She picked up the little girl with one hand and held the umbrella with the other. The little girl was freezing cold, but Alice's neck was warm. Without thinking, she hugged her. "It's freezing. Get it away," Alice said impatiently. "No, I'm cold." The little girl pouted her lips in a pained expression and spoke in a very low voice. Alice ignored her and strode to her own home. Once there, Alice simply threw her onto the sofa in the living room and turned around to pour a glass of hot water. The little girl looked at her with longing eyes. Alice understood and asked, "Do you want some water?" The little girl nodded. Alice laughed unkindly and said, "Come and drink it yourself." The little girl slowly got off the sofa. Perhaps because she hadn't eaten for too long, she got off too abruptly, and her vision went blurry, causing her to fall to the ground again. She accidentally knocked over the cactus on the coffee table with her hand. The little girl's finger was pricked by a cactus, causing a few drops of blood to flow out. She held back her tears and awkwardly scrambled to her feet. Alice glanced lazily at her, her hand holding the cup, suddenly pausing. The previous craving surged up again, filling her throat with desire, and her weak cells stirred, eager to rush to the source of that desire. Extreme dryness of the mouth and throat. She put down her cup and rushed to the little girl without hesitation, grasping her finger and sucking the little bit of blood. The little girl was petrified, her eyes wide open and fixed on Alice without blinking. What kind of feeling is that?
