Arturo lies wide awake on this windless winter night with Chuco curled up on his feet. A shaft of moonlight falls across his blanket from the slanted attic window beside his bed. Instead of his thoughts being focused, as they usually are, on Bessie, or his brother and sister and parents, he finds himself thinking about Cora, his friend in Heaven. What an amazing adventure they’d experienced, taking off on the f*******n rollercoaster under the Sacred Pond to save Cora’s mother Jessa Mae from her deadly d**g addiction. Two rogue fairies, Ragweedy Pete and Marigoldy, had accompanied the teens. Arturo grins. Who knew fairies were real? He sure didn’t, until he met up with those two rascals. It seems human souls have dulled their ability to see them, which is why they think they don’t exist;
