CHAPTER 9 Mission: Be a Gentleman To Be a Man AS SOON AS GREY stepped on their yard, at their house, he was greeted by his father, Habeck. "Welcome home, son! Come here and give your old man a hug," Habeck greeted with his arms wide. But he just passed through him and went straight to his room. His thoughts keeps on bugging him. "Well, it's been a while since I went out with a woman. But what does she really want? That we have to keep this a secret, " he mumbled as he walk. "My son is finally back. Back for being careless about his father's feeling," Habeck shouted. While Grey, on the other hand did not pay attention to him. His thoughts was pre-occupied by what Amber told him before he left the camp and went home. Amber sneakily pulled him for a moment while preparing his things. They talked for a few minutes. Amber wanted to make sure he did not tell anyone about her. About what he saw. About the body of her that he saw. Unexpectedly, Amber asked him to meet on their training-free day. It was supposed to be his rest day. And what's more is that she asked him to meet her at the market alone. And at that night. "Argh!" he shouted in frustation. It was like having a writer's block, where he couldn't think and understand a certain character in the story. He have to d o one thing in order to find out what is she really up to. He went to the old storage box to search for a nice clothes. But he found just those dull earth colored shirts and pants, intended for peasant. "Grey. Dude. This face of ours is useless if you don't even know how to dress up accordingly. Damn! Don't you have any fashion sense? " he mumbled to himself. Actually, he wanted to lecture the one who owns the body. He chose the buttoned long-sleeves and let his chest exposed. Paired it with the most decent pants Grey could ever had. His dad knocked on the door and saw him getting ready. "Going out?" Habeck's forehead crumpled. He nodded as an answer. Habeck's hand moved to his chin. His eyes moving from head to toe. "It looks like you're not going out with your friends. Are you meeting a girl?" "Ye - - " he paused. "I think she is a she," he answered. "Is that how complicated the gender is?" His dad straightened his stand. "I wanted to have a drink with you tonight. But it looks like a certain girl already got your night schedule. I'm just happy that finally, you have given yourself a time. You're really now a man," he sniffed. Habeck took a step towards him and pat his shoulders. "Take care son. Show to that girl that you really are a man," he smirked. He just smiled awkwardly. How come this body haven't got any woman's heart. This Grey haven't dated before? Poor soul, he thought. It was the first time he went to the town market. Though it was night, the market was loud. People were almost packed on that brick tiled road. He can see variety of stalls and stores that sells almost everything you could ever wanted. Lanterns serve as street lights on that cold dark night. Not only that, those colorful lanterns gave the street a colorful merry vibe. Everyone's happily buying and selling. It looks like everyone knows everyone. Every corners were lively as a city. It was like he was on a road from a European country. But was a traditional one. He put his hands on his pocket and felt the coins his father gave him before he went. It was only few coins. But he did not worry. Because he knows that he is in an era where money doesn't really needed. As he strode off the market street, his eyes glanced at the things they sell. He was looking at the price tags and were shocked to see that his money wasn't enough to buy a kilo of fruit. He used to be wealthy at the modern world. Where he could spend money without even looking at price tags. Now, he looked like a broke man, having problem how to get his girl a decent meal for a date. But he wasn't here for a date. He was here because Amber asked him to meet. He wouldn't think about buying anything for her. He looked up to see the clock tower just a few meters away from him. It is where they would see each other. There he he stood by the tall clock tower, to wait for Amber. Just a few minutes from the time they agreed, a small woman approached him. She was wearing a cute baby blue dress that has below the knee length. It was in frills. Her short hair was tied in a white ribbon on the side. It gives her a feminine vibe that really suited her. "Good evening, " she greeted. He never thought he could see his captain in a dress. No one will suspect that the woman standing in front of him is their captain. He can say she is really cute. "Good evening, captain," he said as he straighten his back. "The dress looks good on you," he said smiling. Why did the captain dressed up for that night? "I did not put this to impress. It was plainly to avoid any suspicion. I don't want others to tell that I'm favoring someone." She turned around and continued. "Come on. I'll buy you something." He wasn't expecting that. She's buying something for him? But why? Curious, he just followed Amber's lead. They went inside a wooden door with a signage of two swords intersecting each other. The bell attached to the upper part of the door rang. "Welcome! Welcome! " An energetic old man approached them. "How may I help you? We offer the best quality of swords here. I assure you the finest. Just say anything you're looking for, Sir," he said to him. The room was filled with swords on cabinets, stuck on several stands. The door opened and a man entered. He looks furious. He went straight to the owner and grabbed his collar. "Return my money this instant or I'll cut your throat with the broken sword you sold to me!" the man exclaimed. Amber did not pay attention to their fight and went straight to the selection of swords. "We need to get out. This shop looks bad news," he whispered to Amber. "But Sir. You even tried the sword before you bought it. We make sure we sell the finest of the finest, " the shop owner defended. "Excuse me. I want to take a look at that sword," Amber pointed the top shelf. It was a sword with two sharp blades. It has a unique pattern on the middle with a few emerald jewels. "What? Can't you see? A man is already saying that the sword he bought was a fake one," he whispered. "Sorry Sir. But I have to attend the young lady. If you want a refund, I request you to bring here the broken sword." The owner forced the man to remove his grip on his clothes. The shop owner get the ladder to reach for what Amber was pointing to. The man was throwing his deathly glares to Amber as he took his step towards them. "Hey! Hey! Hey! Can't you see I was still dealing with him? " "Because I got here first. First come, first serve," Amber answered but didn't even look at the man. "Whoa! Excuse me young lady but my issue is more important than yours," the rude man said. "I don't care. I'm also a customer," Amber answered. The rude man obviously didn't like what Amber said. He smirked. "As if there's a place for a woman in a shop like this. Just go home and finish your laundry," the man said. "Why don't you finish your laundry ," Amber said too. "What did you say? Don't you know that's an insult to a man?" The man lifted his hands and was about to land his palm on her pretty face. But he moved quickly to hold it. "You call yourself a man? Yet, you shamelessly slap a woman," he said, acting like cool. "Save your strength and join the army. And never lay a hand on a girl. You should learn how to treat a lady right before you call yourself a man." "Thanks ," Amber said as he pat his shoulder. "But I can take care this myself," she said and landed her fist on the man' s face. He was also shocked at what she just did. The man, on the other hand, didn't have time to react. Because the moment that Amber's fist landed on the his face, he was knocked out that instant. The man went down on his back and was stumbled on the ladder where the shop owner went up to. The ladder also fell down, and also the shop owner. "Amber! " he shouted as he saw the sword was about to fell towards her. But amazingly, Amber raised her hand to catch the sword. She even swayed it professionally. "I never saw such beautiful you woman ever held a sword," the shop owner's jaw dropped. "This is a nice sword, " Amber said. "How much?" Why would Amber buy another sword if the General Commander already gave her a mighty one? He kept quiet until they left the shop. They were walking on that side of the road when Amber stopped and turned around to him. She lifted her hands that was holding the newly bought sword. "For you," she mumbled, looking away and avoiding his gaze. "For me?" "You heard me. Now, just take it! " she exclaimed as she pushes the sword on him. She turned around immediately. The next thing he did was to pull her immediately to the nearest alley and pinned her there. His eyes wandered around looking for something. Then he moved his gaze to the captain who has a face of a ripe red apple. It was the same face he saw the first time he discovered her secret.
