CHAPTER 12 Mission 12: Earn the Captain's Trust GREY quickly moved away his gaze every time Amber's eyes land on him. He has been avoiding her. Of course, he is kinda afraid if that girl will tell everyone what she just witnessed the other night. They were on the training field once again. And he was sweating a lot. They already agreed to keep it a secret while he haven't confirm his powers. The captain will not tell anything about what happen on the fire; while he will not tell anyone about him as a her. But why does it feel that he was still in an unfair situation? He tried so hard to avoid Amber's deadly gaze and focus doing push ups. He only got a week to develop the powers he accidentally unlocked on the fire. THE fire were bit by bit devouring the building faster than they thought. People were coughing. And some were carrying pails of water to eliminate the fire. At the entrance of that building, there he saw Amber carrying an injured man towards the exit. He looked up upon hearing a boy shouting for help. Maybe that will be a perfect time to prove his side. That he was not a traitor. Summoned hero or not, he will be a hero for this time. He took one pail of water from whoever man was near and bathe it on his body. Without hesitation, he run towards the entrance and met the heat of the fire. He even met Amber's shocked eyes but didn't stop. He just keep on moving to where he heard the boy crying for help. It was nice that he could finally use the seminar at school during "fire drills" . He means the modern world. That is to use " Duck, Cover, Crawl " . His way were full of angry fires like hell is already asking for his soul. But there will a chance that he would not go to hell. Not if he rescue a boy from a fire. Because a hero will not go to hell. He followed where he could hear the cries of the boy. He can feel his throat drying because he can inhale smokes. "Anyone here? " he shouted. The little boy stopped crying and replied his call. "Mister? Here! Help me please." He could hear him from a room across him. The metal door knob was too hot to handle that he can't get it open with hands. "Listen to me little boy. Get away from the door, " he shouted. So, with all his might, he kicked the door. And luckily, the door collapsed the second kick. He went directly to the kid and lifted him up. It was just a little boy around six years of age that he can easily carry. They ran to where he came from. But the woods in in that structure began to fell one by one. "Grey! Where are you? " He heard Amber from somewhere. "We're here!" he responded. "Grey!" Amber uttered upon seeing him just above the stairs. "Get him. The stairs are dangerous," he said, handling the boy to her downstairs. Amber expertly caught him. "We'll get you out of here," Amber assured. But then the boy shouted to alert them about the piece of wood about to fell on them. His hand automatically reached out to them. Then a splash of water rushed from his body and threw it on that wood. The wood without fire hit Amber's back shielding the boy. "Are you okay?" he asked. Amber looked up with stunned facial expression. "H - - how? What just happen?" she asked. "There's no time. We need to get out of here. " Amber got back to reality and nodded. THEY both now keeping each others' secrets. The only difference is that he has a deadline to meet. In fact, Amber said that the Royal families need to know what happen in that fire. Because members from Royal line were the only people in Enchantria that could have powers. But he said no about the idea. Well, in the first place, he doesn't even know how did that happen. And he told her that he did not really know how can he do that. Because that was the first time. Amber did not like the idea at first. But then gave him time to let his powers show. She asked him to be on her sight and never stay away. If the Royals were to find out about his powers, he would eventually be the center of attention. But the case would be his win or failure. They might question his identity and would end up still a traitor. One week is not enough. In that wee, he have to earn the captain's trust. So he could gain t her side. Meal time came. Everyone, including Grey were surprised that Amber came to his table to join the meal. Aisel also came to sit down with them. "Wow. Amazing Grey! You got yourself a macapuno, " Aisel said. "The cafeteria seldom have that dessert. You're lucky if you can have one. " He looked at the captain. "Even the captain who is fond of that didn't get one today." A lightbulb suddenly flickered on top of his head. He took the dessert and place it on Amber's plate. She was about to say something when he spoke just before her. "You can have it. I don't feel like eating that today," he said as he pushed the dessert on Amber's plate. "Aww. I'm jealous," Aisel mumbled. "You can have it if you want, " Amber said to Aisel. "Really?! " Aisel's face lightened up. "No. That's for you. Eat it. It's your favorite, right? " he insisted. He should earn her trust the soonest. After the meal, they returned to the training field. On their way there, Aisel handed him the umbrella. But then, he opened the umbrella and walked beside the captain, allowing her to take the umbrella's shade. "He - - he - - hey! That's my umbrella! My skin will get burnt in the sun," Aisel protested and run towards them. He moved himself between them just to take shade. "Vice captain! Grey! What do you think you're doing?" Amber reprimanded. She shook her head and walked faster. "How childish, " she mumbled. "Hey! You're supposed to be my pet. You are under me, remember?" " Sorry Aisel. But I can't say it to you. My life is at risk," he thought. "Come on. Let's head to the camp. Make sure to not let the sun touch my beautiful skin. "Vice captain. Can I have a question?" "Hmm? You are are already asking a question." "How can I earn her trust?" "Who?" "I mean the the Captain's trust. How to earn it?" Damn! That was close! Aisel might have took his pronoun wrong. A playful grin curved on Aisel's lips. "Flowers," he said. "Flowers? " he asked, making sure he heard it right. Aisel nodded. Why did it never crossed his mind? Amber is also a girl. And no woman doesn't love flowers. Wait! Does Aisel also know about Amber's secret? This can't be. If gossips will come around. His head will surely cut off from his body. "Wh - - Why would I give him flowers?" he stattered. On the training ground, little by little, he took a step towards the captain standing still on top of a hill watching her army in training. His hand hid behind him. Upon stepping where she was, he took the flower behind him and gave it to Amber. She was obviously shocked to see the flower he just pick just around the camp. Amber's eyes started to move around. Few of the soldiers passing by were giving them weird looks. How did that did not get into his mind. Everyone knows that the captain was a man. He quickly threw the flower away and acted like nothing happen. "What do you think you're doing?" she asked. "I just have to make sure to be on your good side." "Look. When I say that we keep a secret, I do that. There's no need for these kind of childish thing. " She shook her head and turned her back against him. "Meet me tonight at the lake," she whispered. Night came. As Amber said, they will meet by the lake. "Captain! " he waved upon seeing her standing there. "I made sure, no one followed m -- " "Hush!" She cut him off while putting her right hand to shut his lips. Her other hand on her lips with her index finger. "Are you sure no one followed you here?" she whispered. He just shook his head. "I think someone is here." Again, they heard something from the bushes. So, they went there on their footsteps lighter than a feather. Their back straightened up when a little bunny leaps. It paused and scratched its head and continued to hop away. "Oh. It was just a rabbit," he said. "That was cute." Amber cleared her throat. "Enough with the break. You need to meet me here every after training at the camp." "What? Why?" "You need to show me how you did that." "But I already told you, I don't know how." "That's why you'll be here every after your training at the camp." "So, it's gonna be a training after training?" "You got it. Now time to start it. Water just came out from you. So, you must be a water element user. Let's see how you make a wave at the lake He took a sigh before he did what she asked . His eyes were shut close. His forehead were crumpled. His two index fingers were kissing both sides of his temples. His head is trying to picture out the water moving. He doesn't know where would he pull a force to do that again. Move... Move... Come on... Move... But then, he immediately opened his eyes when he unexpectedly let out an air. Slowly, his head moved to face the captain. Only to see an unbelievable emotion on her face. It was like a mixture of disgust and shock. "Did you just... " She blinked a few times. "Did you just farted? " "Sorry?" he mumbled out of embarrassment. But then, that feeling faded when Amber started to let out a laugh she can't control. She was literally laughing. And all he could do is to stare at her, until her eyes started to get teary. "You should laugh more often. It looks good on you," he said. "What?" she paused and stared back at him. The next thing she did was to reach the surface of the water and splashed it on his face. "Enough playing, hero. You need to practice your water element, " she said and stood up. She never said anything after that and just left. He, then looked at the clearly calm water from the lake. "How did I really do that?" he murmured.
