Chapter Twenty-Four

Harper “Enough moping around Harper,” I looked up from where I had been lazing on Jetts bed . He had only been gone two days and they had been the longest two days of my life. Every little noise made me jump , it had gotten so bad that it was just easier to keep myself to myself in his room. “You look stunning.” I sat up with a groan, my back clicking . And she did look stunning. She was obviously going somewhere where she wanted to make an impression. “Hot date?” “Yeah with you, now get up.” “What do you mean with me, I promised Jett I wouldn’t go anywhere.” The last thing I wanted was to go out and socialise. I was in a funk and I knew it. “You promised Jett , you wouldn’t go out alone and you won’t be. You are coming out with me.” She pouted adorably. “Come on Harper , it’s a full moon and I want to go a little wild. It’s just the bar , it’s not even a big deal. Bat and a few of the guys will be there to keep an eye on us.” I smirked. I couldn’t help it. Bat. He was the reason she was so dressed up I was sure of it. I had caught the way they sneaked glances at it each other. It was obvious to anyone with eyes in their head that they liked each other. Well it was obvious to me anyway, the men and club girls didn’t seem to notice at all. “You said it wasn’t a big thing and you wanted to get wild in the same breath Sarah.” “Come onnnnn , it’s not a big deal. We will have big strong men to watch over us so we can get a little wild if we want to. And I want to dance Harper, in the moonlight and drink my weight in tequila shots. Please come.” She made a scene of praying , her hands clasped in front of her. “Ok but I have absolutely nothing to wear. My one good dress is at the hotel.” I picked at Jetts T-shirt. He may have bought me new clothes but they were all basic and most were for a woman who was a lot more stacked up top than I was. “I’ll get one of the boys to go grab any of your stuff tonight and bring it back here but for now …” She produced a hanger from behind the door and held it up with a flourish. “This would be perfect on you.” I shook my head . “No way Sarah, is that even a dress?” I scampered off the bed to inspect the scrap of material. “That won’t cover me.” “It will just cover you and that’s the point, now shoo, into the shower with you whilst I find someone with some curling tongs to do your hair.” I paused , the dress bunched up in my hands. “What will Jett say?” My words came out a squeak, it was pure habit but I couldn’t help but be worried about what he would think if he knew I had been out in public in such a revealing outfit. Would he be mad? “What?” Sarah paused. “Harper , Jett isn’t like that ok. He’s jealous sure but he would never tell you what to wear or belittle you for your choice in outfits. Hell once we are ready I’ll snap a picture of us. He will be gutted he’s not here.” She giggled. “I’m surprised you two haven’t been doing the Phone nasty Twenty -Four- Seven anyway” “I don’t have a phone.” Sarah didn’t miss a beat. “We will get you one tomorrow and now shower Missy, you are seriously delaying my drinking time.” Giggling I closed the door behind me. Maybe a girls night out was exactly what I needed. “Well s**t Harper, you look stunning.” Bat didn’t miss a beat as we made our way across the crowded bar to where he was perched in the corner. Looking every inch the bad ass biker. If bikers all looked like Male fitness models. His eyes appraised me slowly up and down and then flicked to Sarah and away. “You as well Sarah.” He took a long pull of his beer. Beside me sarah flamed bright red. “Screw you Bat.” She mumbled under her breath. “We look better then stunning.” “Yeah you do.” He admitted but wouldn’t look at her in the face , which meant I was right. What ever was going on between them They were trying hard to pretend it wasn’t there. Or at least he was. “I sent a picture of Jetts woman here and sent it to him but he hasn’t replied yet.” She fished out her phone from her clutch. Waving it in his face. “Oh maybe he has, nope.” Her fingers flew over the screen. “That’s definitely not a text from Jett.” Bats eyes narrowed. “Sarah.” He warmed in a low voice and it took me a second to click on as I glanced between them. “Don’t start that s**t tonight, go and grab seats and I’ll get drinks brought over. And he didn’t text you back because he text me back and told me he would rip my heart out if I didn’t look after you tonight” His voice softened. “He also said you looked beautiful Harper.” “He did?” I hadn’t expected that, sure I looked good, a little trashy maybe but my ex.., he would have gone nuts if I had dared to dress like this. In fact I wouldn’t have even dared to try. ”Yeah he did, now go and find seats. It’s gonna get rammed in here soon with it being a full moon.” “The club coming down?” Again it felt like I was missing something important. “They will be here, letting off steam.”he nodded to a suddenly empty table and we sidled away to claim it before anyone else could. “So what’s going on between you and Bat?” Sarah paled under her makeup. “What do you mean?” “I mean it’s obvious you are crazy about each other.” She lowered her eyes but I had already seen the way they flicked to the older man. “Keep your voice down Harper,” “Oh come on, its loud as hell in here no one will hear.” But I did see Bats eyes flick towards us. “You like him don’t you?” “Yeah but he… he’s Diablos best friend . He thinks of me like a little sister.” “That’s crap, he looks at you like he wants to unwrap you like a birthday present , what’s the deal? Or are you out of bounds because of being Diablos baby sister?” “Something like that, it’s club rules ya know. Family is out of bounds.” She looked sad. “He won’t go against the club” “But you want him too?” She giggled. “Of course I want to, I mean have you seen him but he won’t so it doesn’t matter if I am in love with him or not. It’s not going to happen.” “Wait you are in love with him?” There was silence as Teddy brought a tray of drinks over , but Sarah looked sad as she glanced back towards the bar and I could see why. Bats arm was firmly around the waist of a curvy woman. He was whispering in her ear. “Only half my life but…” she shot down her drunk in one and slammed it down on the table, reaching without pausing for breath for the next. “I can’t keep doing this you know?” She motioned with her hand. “I can’t keep watching and waiting for him to really see me.” Another shot. “So tonight’s the night I move on. You ok with being my wingman?” I pulled a shot towards me. How had I felt seeing Jett with another woman? It had made me sick to my stomach and I wasn’t even in love with him. How would it feel if I had known and loved him half my life and he didn’t even look at me? Something inside me would die. Being her wingman was the least I could do. “Yeah I can do that.”
