Harper
The need to use the bathroom had been unlocking my door about 4am when I just couldn’t hold it any longer.
Jett has said something about a bathroom but he hadn’t shown me where it was which meant I had two options.
One I could wander around and hope to god any door I tried would lead to a bathroom and not some bikers room , where I would see god knows what .
Or I could follow the noise downstairs and actually ask someone. Hopefully not running into Jett.
Which was silly. He had invited me here. He had said we would be friends, he hadn’t promised anything . In fact I had told him I didn’t want anything more.
It had been me who over reacted.
I took the stairs slowly, the hall way was dark although light filtered up from downstairs . Light , and the sound of a party. And the overwhelming smell of beer.
Pausing in the door way, heat crept up my neck and onto my face as I took in the scene in front of me.
Holy cow, no wonder he had warned me not to think less of him. The first thing that caught my attention was the fact a topless woman was gyrating on someone’s lap, I couldn’t see who it was and I was glad of that.
There was another woman dancing on a low table, her naked ass jiggling as she danced. It was around this table that I spotted Jett. He didn’t even turn to face me, his eyes never left the woman on the table.
Bile rose in my throat.
I did not belong here.
I wasn’t the kind of girl who Jett favoured. I wasn’t like the girl on the table. Or the one in the hot pants he had ridden off with the other night.
“Hey.” The quiet voice spoke from behind me and I turned slightly as Sarah stepped up to my side. Her eyes instantly following mine. She shook her head softly. “Men are dumb.”
I couldn’t disagree with that. Men were dumb.
“Don’t let him get to you ok, no men here is worth the look on your face chick.” She smiled . “Fancy a drink? You look like you need one.”
“I just … i was looking for a bathroom. Then I think I’ll just go back to bed.” I yawned theatrically. Truth was I hadn’t even been to sleep. I had just been stewing , literally in my own jealousy.
And my own stupidity as well if the view in front of me was anything to go by.
“Do that and he wins chick, come on I’ll show you the bathroom down here and then me and you will grab a drink. Now hold that pretty head up high.” She wrapped her hand around mine , tugging me into the room. More than one pair of eyes swivelled in our direction.
“Sarah.” I knew the moment Jetts eyes found me. It was like the air itself crackled.
“Ignore him.” She threw a narrowed look over my shoulder. Sarah wasn’t like any other club girl I had seen so far. For one she was nice. Not one other female had spoken to me since I had been here. Sarah on the other hand was friendly and open. And she was wearing a lot more clothes. Not as many as me but she definitely didn’t look like she was about to whip her t**s out.
“In there.” She gave me a little push towards an open door . “I’ll be right here, making sure none of those drunken alley cats try and get in.”
“Is that likely?” I swept weary eyes towards the crowded living room. They were a dangerous group , I could tell that but would they? I shook my head. Jett wouldn’t have brought me here if his club mates were into rape and molestation would he?
“No,no not like that. No.” She looked horrified. “And anyway I’m here and they know I’ll kick their ass if they even try to step over the line. Jett has warned everyone off so I shouldn’t have to hurt anyone.” She winked.
“You will take on big scary bikers? None of the other girls seem to stick up for themselves.”
“That’s because they are club girls.”
“And your not?” I said from behind the closed bathroom door.
“God no, I’m Diablos sister.”
Well that made sense. No wonder she didn’t see me as a threat.
“Thanks.” Gratefully I took the glass from her hand as soon as I was finished and back in the kitchen. I sniffed at the concoction . I had no idea what it was.
Bat chuckled as he slid off his stool, “here sit. It’s good to see you down here Harper.” He gave me the smallest pat on the shoulder but it wasn’t on me his eyes lingered. No it was on Sarah. He caught me looking and his eyes danced away guiltily.
Interesting. Something was definitely going on there.
“Thanks, So … nice party.”
Sarah laughed. “This isn’t a party but it’s not usually this rowdy. Not every night anyway.”
“So naked women aren’t usually dancing on the table?”
Bat frowned, his eyes narrowing as he took in the girl on the table and then Jett. He was still sat there but his eyes were locked on our little group through the connecting door.
“You learn to ignore them.” Sarah took a sip of her drink and pulled a face. “They aren’t a threat to women like us”
“And I am not a threat to them, yet they seem to hate me on sight anyway.”
“That’s because you were invited by Jett, they are jealous.” Bat was leaving heavily on the counter , his beer bottle balanced loosely in his hand.
“They have no reason to be jealous of me and Jett. There is no me and Jett. We are just friends. Maybe not even that.”
“And yet you can’t keep your eyes off him, and he follows your every movement like a lost puppy.”
Sarah giggled , I wasn’t sure what he had said that she had found so funny. Must be some kind of inside joke I knew nothing about.
“Friends.” I took a long swig of my drink and almost choked. What the hell was that? And why was Sarah trying to poison me?
“You … “ Bat laughed. “One of Sarah’s cocktails I take it. She only makes them for her friends.”
I smiled. “ Well then to friends” I tipped my glass, happy when both Bat and Sarah clinked their glass to mine.
“I want to be friends as well.” A young blonde stepped up to my side. He smelt faintly on perfume.
Bats eyes narrowed.
“More friends the merrier.” I clinked my glass to his.
