The vampire

She climbed the stairs one at a time until she reached the big white door. The door had a large number "2" on it written in black. Jennie pulled the heavy door open and let it slam behind her as she made her way down the hall to apartment 109. Finally, there it was-door 109. There was nothing so fascinating about the door, but Jennie found herself admiring the blank black door to her room. She paused a little in front of the door. Jennie breathed in and out heavily for several times until she unlocked and opened the door. At first Jennie had expected to see her roommates waiting to welcome her, but the silent that persisted few minutes after she had entered the apartment made her welcome the fact that she had no roommate. No sign that someone had been staying in the room which also restated the fact that she could have a roommate anytime sooner. But nevertheless, Jennie was grateful of not having to deal with any roommate issue for the main time. Jennie closed the door, locked it, and glanced around the apartment approvingly. The apartment was attractively set up with mostly blue furnitures. A dark blue couch with a black floral design sat near the window blinds. In front of it sat a coffee table. Jennie drew closer to the table and swiped her right palm over the table. She tried confirming how dusty the room was and how much work of cleaning she was going to embark on. Luckily for her, the cleaning had been done. The university maintenance unit must have done the cleaning or maybe someone just vacated the apartment just the way she vacated her former room. No cleaning for her. Jennie smiled incessantly to herself. She must have been indeed lucky in disguise. Jennie stared at the corner of the room, a tall black case with gold trim at the mouth adorning the large peacock feathers it held caught her attention. Across the couch were several three-unit blue empty book shelves. Jennie was impressed with the set-up of the apartment. She slowly collapsed into the couch, her buttock feeling how comfy the couch was. All the anxiety and fears were now over. She could freely breathe without having to get goosebumps of how scary Diva Hall Apartment was. The Diva Hall Apartment wasn't that bad after all though it wasn't populated as most students didn't want to live in there. Jennie could say it was a little bit better than the apartment she once shared with Thelma at the Main University Apartments. The only eyesore that irritated Jennie was her boxes and bags that were stacked in one corner near the front door. The security that assisted Jennie with packing had earlier dumped the bags she arranged outside in front of her door inside the room. Whatever, she still had time to stock her belongings well in the appropriate places. From where Jennie sat, she could feel the refreshing breeze that escaped through the window blinds into the apartment. It was just the perfect room she needed. Time passed. It was getting dark outside. After Jennie had arranged her belongings in the proper places, she went in to take a brisk night shower. Few minutes later, Jennie emerged from the bathroom dressed in a large green bathrobes (her favorite bathrobe) with a matching towel wrapped around her head. It was indeed a stressful day for Jennie. The shower was effective in relieving her of the stress and pains she had been going through. Soon, Jennie had changed into her silk flamingo pink night gown with red rose motif on it. She flung herself on the bed she had earlier laid and tuck herself in her comforter. The night had grew cold and dark in Jennie's lowly room. Since there was nobody to while away the night with. Jennie hugged one of her two pillows closely to her chest and adjusted the position of the other pillow under her head She stared at the brick ceiling of the room. The ceilings seem to reactivate Jennie's anxiety - what her dad would say if he gets to know about the assault allegation and she was also worried about her internship. She for saw a terrible week ahead peradventure her internship didn't work out as she had planned and her dad gets to know about what led her into Diva Hall Apartment. Jennie dreaded having to see her week go bad. She rolled over her right side, she hadn't fallen asleep even though she had yawned a couple of times. Suddenly, Jennie spranged up from her bed, she just remembered she hadn't closed her room windows. She walked to her window side. The cold night breeze met with Jennie's skin as she reached for her casement windows. Just then she heard a loud scream outside. At first Jennie had thought that her inability to sleep had caused her to hallucinate but the scream continued to grow louder. Jennie peered out the window, searching through the dark night with the help of the litted street light implanted by the school authorities behind the apartment. The scream was coming from the deserted missionary cathedral behind Diva Hall Apartment. Usually no resident of Diva Hall Apartment dared open their windows in the night because of the rumour that ghosts abode in the cathedral. Whether it was true or not no one was sure since there wasn't evidence to prove their claims. But no one dared to ransack the old cathedral. The aged cathedral had not been in use for decades and was surrounded by trees and bushes as it was abandoned. Jennie's eyes almost bulged out from their socket from what her rounded eyes saw. She felt her body freeze while staring at the horrific event. It was like watching an horror movie. A man was right behind the Diva Hall Apartment in front of the bushy old cathedral. The man held a being with his right hand and buried his face in the victim's neck while the victim screamed in pain. Jennie could not see whether the victim was a female or male but she was sure that she saw the victim's body became pale gradually as the body was running out of blood. The man slowly released his victim from his grip and the body fell rapidly on the ground like a log of wood as it was lifeless. Jennie noticed blood dripping from one corner of the man's mouth, he slowly wiped the blood with the back of his hand. A vampire? Jennie opened her mouth in agape she was shocked and frightened. She had never seen such beings before in her life time except in movies and only heard about them from her novels. The man buried his victim under the huge heap of leaves beside him. He looked round checking if someone was watching him as he drained out his victim's blood. Then his eyes sighted Jennie peering through her casement window.
