Chapter 18: The Danger Closes In
But Nnenna, Nneoma, and Chidi were hot on their trail, and they wouldn't give up until justice was served. As they dug deeper, the danger closed in around them. Strange men lurked in the shadows, watching their every move. Nnenna's laptop was hacked, and threatening messages appeared on the screen.
"We need to be careful," Nnenna warned, her eyes scanning the surroundings. "They're getting desperate."
Chidi's face set in determination. "We can't back down now." We're close to the truth.
Nnenna nodded. "Let's keep moving." We need to find a safe place to lie low for a while."
As they walked, the streets seemed to grow darker, the shadows twisting into menacing shapes. Suddenly, footsteps echoed behind them, heavy and deliberate. Nnenna's heart skipped a beat. "Run!" she whispered, grabbing Nneoma's and Chidi's arms.
They sprinted down the alley, the footsteps closing in. Their lives were at stake, and the danger was real.
As they sprinted down the alley, the footsteps closed in. Heart racing, Nnenna yanked open a nearby door, pulling Nneoma and Chidi inside. They found themselves in a dimly lit storage room, the air thick with dust. Panting, they listened as the footsteps halted outside, muffled voices arguing in hushed tones.
"We can't stay here long," Nnenna whispered, eyes locked on the door. "They'll find us."
Chidi nodded, his face set. "We need to get out of here, now."
Nnenna's eyes sparkled with determination. "I have an idea."
