Chapter 6: The long-lost sister

603 Words
As Nneoma was pulled into the waiting car, she felt a rush of adrenaline. The mysterious figure drove recklessly, dodging traffic and pedestrians. Nneoma held on tight, her heart racing with fear and excitement. Finally, the car stopped in front of a small apartment building. The figure turned off the engine and turned to Nneoma.” We'll need to talk,” they said, their voice low and urgent. Nneoma nodded, still trying to process what was happening. The figure got out of the car and led Nneoma to the apartment inside. The figure turned on the light, revealing a shocking truth. Nneoma's eyes widened as she stared at the person in front of her. “ You're….. You're Ada's cousin, Chidi's sister,“ Nneoma stammered. The figure smiled and saw a glimmer of recognition.” No Nneoma, I'm your sister, your long-lost sister.” Nneoma's world sprang around her. She felt like she was being punched in the gut. “ What do you mean?” she asked, her voice barely above a whisper. The woman, who claimed to be Nneoma's sister, took a deep breath.” My name is Nnenna." Our parents….they had an affair, I'm the result of that affair. Nneoma's mind reeled as she processed the information. She had a sister? Why hadn't she known? Nnenna handed Nneoma a photo album. As Nneoma flipped through the pages, she saw pictures of herself and Nnenna as children. There were pictures of their parents, too. The more Nneoma saw, the more she realized all her life had been a lie. She had been kept in the dark about her family secrets. Nneoma's eyes filled with tears.” I've been watching you from afar, Nneoma." I knew Chike was trouble. That's why I warned you. Nneoma's heart went out to her sister. She felt a mix of emotions:shock, anger, and sadness. “What do we do now?” Nneoma asked, her voice firm. Nnenna smiled,” We take down Chike Nwosu together.” Nneoma's eyes locked onto her sister's. She knew she could trust Nnenna. Together, they would uncover the truth and bring Chike down. But as they hugged, Nneoma's phone buzzed, it was Chike. “ Where are you?” he asked, his voice cold. Nneoma's heart skipped a bit. She knew she had to be careful.” I'll be right there,” she replied, trying to sound calm. As she hung up , Nnenna’s eyes narrowed. “We need to get you out of there." Now." Nneoma nodded. She knew her sister was right, but she also knew that escaping Chike wouldn't be easy. He had a way of finding her, no matter where she went. Nnenna grabbed Nneoma's hand and pulled her towards the door. "Come on, we have to go," she said, her voice firm. Nneoma followed Nnenna, her heart racing with fear. She knew that Chike wouldn't take kindly to her trying to escape. As they reached the door, Nnenna peeked outside, checking for any signs of Chike or his men. "It's clear," she said, pulling Nneoma out into the night. They ran as fast as they could, their hearts pounding in their chests. Nneoma knew that she had to trust Nnenna, to let her guide her to safety. But as they ran, she couldn't shake off the feeling that Chike was closing in on them. Suddenly, Nnenna stopped and pulled Nneoma into a nearby alleyway. "Wait," she said, her voice barely above a whisper. "Do you hear that?" Nneoma listened, her heart racing. She could hear the sound of footsteps, heavy and deliberate. Chike's men were closing in on them.
