Jade frowned slightly as sunlight streamed through the window and fell across her face.
Only then did she realize that it was open, allowing the cool morning breeze to freely enter the room.
She squeezed her eyes shut.
She couldn’t remember what time she had returned to their bedroom.
The only thing she could recall was drinking the previous night.
She wasn’t used to alcohol, which was probably why she had gotten drunk so quickly.
And somehow, she still felt upset about what Audrey had done—kissing Primo.
But why?
For what reason?
Wasn’t Primo supposed to be nothing more than a tool in her revenge?
Jade instinctively placed a hand over her chest.
“No… this can’t be happening!” she screamed silently.
“Wake up, Jade! Wake up! You can’t fall in love with another Villareal!”
A strange fear suddenly settled inside her.
Why did it feel as though she was slowly falling for the man she had married solely for revenge?
Guilt.
That had to be it.
Perhaps she was simply feeling guilty about everything she was doing.
Primo had done nothing wrong.
Maybe Cheska was right.
Maybe she should stop everything before she ended up hurting Primo beyond repair.
Her throat suddenly felt dry.
Jade quickly got out of bed, only to notice that she was wearing different sleepwear from what she had worn the night before.
She placed a hand over her chest as her heart pounded violently, almost like the beat of a powerful drum.
Primo must have changed her clothes for her so she would be more comfortable. She had probably smelled strongly of alcohol after getting drunk.
Jade slowly exhaled.
She hadn’t even been living in the Villareal mansion for very long, yet she was already beginning to wonder if she could continue with her plans.
As much as she hated to admit it, Primo seemed to have already claimed a special place in her heart.
And that was something she didn’t want to allow to grow any deeper with time.
She needed to accomplish her plans as soon as possible.
She hurried toward the bathroom.
Time was running out.
Every day that passed brought her closer to losing control of the situation.
She had to find a way to avenge all the pain and humiliation she had suffered.
She had to carry out her plans.
Whatever was happening between her and Primo could not be allowed to deepen any further.
She had to put an end to it before her feelings became impossible to control.
Jade chose a black off-shoulder blouse that morning.
It revealed her smooth shoulders, something she secretly took pride in.
Despite growing up in poverty, she had always taken good care of her skin.
Who would have guessed that she had been raised in a poor family?
She paired the blouse with a pair of short denim shorts that showed off her long, smooth legs.
Jade nearly jumped when the door to their spacious bedroom suddenly opened.
Her eyes widened when she saw who was standing in front of her.
Vince.
“What are you doing here?!”
Jade immediately stood up from the edge of the bed, where she had been sitting while brushing her hair.
But because she was so startled by Vince’s sudden appearance, she lost her balance.
Before she could fall, she found herself caught in the man’s strong arms.
“Careful, sweetheart,” Vince murmured softly, his lips almost brushing the side of her ear.
Jade could smell the toothpaste he had used. Judging by the fresh scent of soap lingering on him, he had obviously just taken a shower.
Sweetheart.
The audacity of this man!
What right did Vince have to call her that?
Was he deliberately teasing her?
Was he trying to find out if she still had feelings for him?
Jade immediately pulled away from his embrace and glared at him.
“Leave, Vince! My husband will be back in this room any minute. I don't want him to find you here.”
“Are you afraid that Primo will find out about what we have?”
“You said it yourself, Vince. You’re happy with the life you have now. You’re married, aren’t you? So am I.”
Vince slowly stepped toward her.
Jade instinctively stepped backward.
“Leave now, Vince! I don't feel anything for you anymore!”
“I don’t believe you.”
“Then don’t. I don’t care what you believe anymore, Vince. I buried whatever love I once had for you a long time ago.”
Vince swallowed hard.
He stood frozen in place, looking as though someone had suddenly drained every ounce of strength from him.
“Babe…”
His voice trembled.
“It’s all my fault. I thought leaving you was the right thing to do because I believed it would be better for both of us.”
He lowered his gaze for a moment before looking at her again.
“I’m sorry. I finally realized that I can’t stand seeing you with another man.”
His jaw tightened.
“Just thinking about you sharing your nights with someone else… Jade, I can’t take it.”
Jade stared directly into Vince’s eyes.
Then she gave him a bitter smile.
“Vince… your uncle is damn good in bed. Do you still want me to tell you how happy he makes me?”
Vince’s eyes immediately blazed with anger.
Without thinking, he slammed his fist against the wall beside Jade.
The sound made her freeze.
She had never expected Vince to lose his temper like that.
Wasn’t he the same man who had recently driven her away from the mansion?
Then what was this?
Was he really regretting what he had done?
Had he finally realized that he wasn’t truly happy with the choices he had made?
“It seems like you’re moving rather fast, Vince,” Jade said, her voice filled with skepticism. “I don’t know if I can believe everything coming out of your mouth.”
“You need to believe me, Jade.”
His voice was firm.
“And I’ll prove it to you. I’m leaving Monica.”
“Oh?”
Jade raised an eyebrow.
“Can you really do that? You’ll lose everything, Vince, if you go through with it.”
“Then I don’t care!”
His eyes burned with determination.
“I’m going to correct all the mistakes I made before. I’m taking you back, Jade—before I forget that Primo and I are related by blood.”
Jade’s expression hardened.
“I won’t let any more nights pass with you having to pretend to be his wife.”
Vince stepped closer.
“I know you don’t love him, Jade.”
His voice dropped into a possessive whisper.
“You still love me.”
