Chapter 10: Jade Is Mad

1252 Words
"Come on, love. Are you mad at me?" Primo asked as he stared seriously at the woman whose back was turned toward him. The man had been practically running after Jade ever since she walked out after witnessing his ex-girlfriend kiss him on the lips right in front of her. Jade boldly turned around and stared straight into her husband's eyes when they finally reached the parking area. "Primo—you didn't tell me that your ex-girlfriend was like that! She's so rude. Do you know that?" Jade said, repeatedly touching her chest as she tried to calm herself. "Look, please calm down, Jade! I never thought Audrey would do something like that! If I had known, I would have—" "Then you should have avoided her, right? Because from the way I saw it, you seemed to enjoy it," Jade said judgmentally, barely able to contain her emotions. "Love—am I hearing you right? Are you jealous? Are you jealous of her?" Primo asked teasingly, laughing at his wife. Why did it seem to Jade that the man was actually happy instead of being concerned about her feelings? Was this really how the Villareals were? Did they actually enjoy being surrounded by women who were practically throwing themselves at them? "Of course not! I'm not!" Jade said before turning away. Her emotions had slightly subsided when she realized that she was becoming far too affected by what had happened. She wondered why she was so affected in the first place. Wasn't it true that she didn't really love Primo? She swallowed repeatedly. She turned her gaze toward the outside of the car they were riding in while Primo started the engine. "You know what, Jade—I'm starting to like this feeling. Seeing you get angry at Audrey!" Primo said with a gentle smile as he slowly drove the car. "What?" Jade screamed inwardly. What was Primo talking about? Was he actually happy that she had been humiliated at that party? "What? You're actually happy that Audrey humiliated me in front of all those people? Just because I'm not rich like all of you, does that mean she can do whatever she wants to me?" Jade said firmly. Every word she uttered carried weight. Her marriage to Primo might only be an act, but she still wouldn't allow anyone to humiliate her—especially when Vince had also been at the gathering. Perhaps he had even enjoyed seeing Audrey do that to her. She also had a feeling that her former boyfriend didn't like her presence in the mansion. Maybe he thought she wouldn't be able to last long in Primo's world. Well... he was wrong! Primo let out a sigh. He slowly pulled the car to the side of the road so they wouldn't obstruct traffic. When the car finally came to a stop, the man immediately reached for Jade's hand. He gently held her chin and tried to make her look into his eyes. "Love—please don't make this hard for me. You know I wasn't at fault for what happened earlier. Audrey had been drinking. She didn't know what she was doing," Primo said. "But didn't you say that you were starting to like that kind of feeling? What exactly did you mean by that?" she asked, sounding like a sulking wife. "I just said that because I feel like you really care about me when... when you get upset, when you get jealous, Jade! I know that from the very beginning, you never really loved me!" Primo said, his voice slightly breaking. At that moment, Jade suddenly felt a pang of guilt deep inside her. Was what she was feeling actually true? Was she really angry because she was jealous? Was that what this was? "No—I'm not angry, Primo! Let's not make this a bigger issue. I don't want us to fight anymore!" Jade said without thinking, still trying to avoid looking at him. "I know, Jade. You still don't love me even now. And that's okay with me, Jade. I'm willing to wait, no matter how long it takes. In fact, I think you're already close to learning to love me because—" "Because... because what?" Jade asked irritably. "Because you don't like it when another woman kisses me! Don't worry, Jade. You're the only woman I love... and I don't think there's any other woman I could ever love except you!" ************************************** At the Villareal Mansion... Jade couldn't seem to settle down. Primo's words from earlier kept replaying in her mind. Was she really starting to care about him? She placed a hand against her temple. "Jade—are you okay?" She startled when someone suddenly spoke behind her. She was standing in front of the refrigerator because she had decided to get some cold water to drink. She had just come from the garden, where she had gone to think. It was only too late when she realized that she had somehow ended up in Vince's arms. She had accidentally lost her balance when she was startled by the man's sudden appearance, and he had caught her before she could fall. She immediately pulled away from Vince's embrace and composed herself. Their skin had only touched for a brief moment, but she felt like she couldn't bear it any longer. She was disgusted! "Thank you for helping me. I'll leave you now," Jade said coldly. She had already turned her back on him when Vince spoke again. "You look sad, Jade. Are you affected by what Audrey did earlier?" the man asked, sounding concerned. "It's none of your business, Vince." Vince clenched his fist. Why did Jade's words feel like a slap to his face? He had seen how the woman had defended herself against Audrey earlier. Was it possible that she really did love his father's brother? "So you really love Primo?! I still don't believe this whole act of yours, Jade!" Vince said. Jade smirked. There was no emotion in her eyes as she stared at Vince. "Vince, this is the second time you've told me that what I feel for Primo isn't real. What exactly are you trying to imply? What if I tell you that I really was affected when Audrey kissed my husband because I was jealous? And I was jealous... because I love him. What does that matter to you?" "You're only saying that to hurt me, Jade! I know you haven't completely forgotten what I did when I left you back then!" Vince said, his eyes blazing. His jaw tightened, and Jade could feel the anger boiling inside him. Jade stepped closer to Vince. There were only a few inches between their faces. She could almost hear his heavy breathing, as though he was struggling to catch his breath. "Vince—what do you think is running through your mind right now, with the two of us this close? I can't help but pity you... Why do I feel like you're still not happy with your life even though you got what you wanted?" Jade noticed Vince's Adam's apple moving repeatedly. The entire mansion was cold because of the air conditioning, so why was the man's forehead beginning to sweat? Jade narrowed her eyes slightly before reaching up and caressing Vince's cheek. She slowly ran her soft palm down his neck, then over his shoulder and down across his chest. "Be careful, Vince! You might end up having a heart attack!"
