The Life Of A Horse

Chapter 9

I am pulled back and I lunge at the person holding my rope. The other person throws another rope over my head. I glance at the rope and bite it. It breaks in two bites and the human notices that I am not attached to it anymore. He lets it go and it lands behind me. He throws a new rope over my head.

I head out of the woods in a gallop and almost succeed on pulling the rope out of their hands but they have a vice grip on it.I am suddenly exhausted and I can't do anything so they lead me after the hoofprints of the herd.

After about fifteen minutes we find the other riders. Oh no. I am suddenly overwhelmed with failure and sadness. They caught the herd. But wait.

There aren't any horses. Ok there is one. And it is... Bay. Magic...

The humans are talking when I hear them say, "The herd got away?! How? You five caught the lead stallion and how not the other horses?" "They got away? Did you sacrifice yourself?" I ask Magic. He nods his head. There is something weird about him acting like a human sometimes.

The humans continue back to the hill and we have been walking about thirty minutes when we get back to the hill. I see the ropes hanging over my neck and Magic's ropes. He has four ropes so he must have fought back. "I have a plan," I say to Magic quietly. "What is it?" "I will bite your ropes and you gallop away and go to the herd. I can come back later."

"I can't just leave you here," he says.

"Yes you can. Your herd needs a leader." He nods and I guess he knows that one of us has to be left behind. And I'm injured so I will be left behind.

I whinny telling him I'm putting the plan in action.

"3,2,1," I say. I lean over by his ropes and chomp as hard as I can. It tastes so bad but I have to do it. I let go and he bolts off. But the person that I bit his rope earlier in the woods saw it coming and launched a rope at Magic. It lands perfectly and Magic is launched back to us.

"This horse knows how to get away," the human that caught Magic says. The humans nod and they seperate me and Magic. Now Magic has to free himself or I have to free myself. But they are watching us now. My plan failed but we will still get away.

The humans randomly halt and two dismount. They walk toward me and I back up as far as I can. They are holding a bridle with something by the mouth. They come by me and force the bridle in my mouth. With the bit I can't bite the ropes. I look over and they put it on Magic too.

It is irritating so I keep opening my mouth and closing it. Pretty soon I get used to it and I walk in silence. The people have stopped watching us now but they glance at us every now and then. Oh no this is the worst thing I could think of to happen...
