Chapter 3

Javan jerked upright with a sharp gasp as icy water poured over him. Sera stood beside his bed, a mischievous smile playing on her lips. He glanced down at his soaked clothes, his jaw tightening as his fists clenched. "What do you think you're doing?" he snapped. "I'm going out," she said casually. "Am I supposed to teach you how to do your job?" "You didn't have to do this," he replied, struggling to keep his voice calm. "You could have woken me properly." "I'm sorry, Javan. It's all my fault," Bianca said softly from behind Sera, but he ignored her completely. "Such guts," Sera spat, shooting Bianca a sharp look. She turned back to him, her expression cold and unapologetic. "Anyway, I don't want you ruining my mood. You have three minutes. If I don't see you before those three minutes are up, you're fired." With that, she turned on her heels and walked out, Bianca hurrying after her. He pushed himself up to get ready, but the water pooled on the floor betrayed him. His foot slipped, and he crashed hard onto the ground. "Damn it," he groaned as pain shot through his body. Cursing under his breath, he forced himself up and headed to the bathroom. After a quick shower and a change of clothes, he dressed in black pants and a black chiffon shirt, sleeves rolled up, two buttons left open to reveal part of his bare chest. When he walked into the sitting room, she was already there — legs crossed, eyes fixed on her phone. She heard his footsteps and looked up, her gaze lingering as it slowly swept over him. "Are you checking me out?" Javan teased. She quickly masked her reaction with a stern expression. "As if you're worth looking at," she said coldly, standing and walking out. "Ouch… that hurts," he muttered, shaking his head as he followed her outside. The ride was quiet, almost uncomfortably so. She kept stealing glances at Javan, certain he was still irritated about the cold water. "Why do you keep staring at me?" he asked suddenly. "Do I look that alluring?" Heat rushed through her and she felt an unwelcome throb of arousal. She turned her face to the window, pretending not to hear him. He parked in front of the restaurant, and she stepped out immediately without looking back. The moment she walked inside, her steps slowed — the place was silent, with no guests or staff in sight. She nodded, clearly impressed that Edward had booked out the entire restaurant. She spotted him at a table, sipping wine. When he noticed her, he quickly wiped his lips with a napkin. "Sorry," he said with a smile. "I was just having some wine while waiting for you." "Save it," she cut him off, picking up the menu. A waiter approached and took her order. "You look hot," Edward added casually, his gaze lingering shamelessly on her chest. "Edward, can you stop acting like a pervert?" she snapped. "It's irritating." "What do you mean?" he scoffed. "You're my girlfriend—" The waiter returned with her order, smiling politely as he set the plate in front of her. Then came a loud crash, so sudden Sera flinched — Edward had smashed a wine bottle over the waiter's head. "Why are you flirting with my girlfriend?" Edward yelled, grabbing the waiter by the collar. "Are you crazy?" Sera stood frozen, shock rippling through her. She hadn't expected things to turn violent so fast. Red wine splashed everywhere, soaking her dress — the same bottle Edward had just shattered. Without a word, she stood to leave. Edward caught her hand. "I'm sorry, my love," he said quickly. "You weren't supposed to see that. That bastard was flirting with you." Sera sighed and tried to pull away, but his grip only tightened. "Let me go, Edward," she said through clenched teeth. "You're hurting me." Instead of releasing her, he pulled her closer, arms wrapping tightly around her. "Let's get married," he said. "Maybe then all these idiots will stop staring at you." Her eyes widened in disbelief. "Are you stupid?" she yelled, pushing against him. "Let go of me! Why are you acting like a psycho?" Edward refused to let go. With no other option, she pressed her heel hard into his foot. He cried out and stumbled back. She slapped him across the face — once, then again. "Don't you ever touch me again without my permission." "You belong to me!" Edward shouted. "You're mine!" He grabbed her again, trying to force his lips on hers — but before he could, a strong hand seized his collar from behind and flipped him over with brutal force. Edward crashed onto the table. Glass shattered as he hit the floor. Sera rushed to Javan and grabbed his hand. That's when he noticed how badly she was shaking. He said nothing — just led her outside, opened the car door, helped her in, and got behind the wheel before driving off. She sat silently beside him, trying not to cry, while Javan turned up the music to ease the tension in the car. Soon he spotted an ice-cream van by the roadside and pulled over. "Do you want ice cream?" he asked softly. She only looked at him without answering. He took it as a yes. "Hold on," he said, stepping out and heading toward the van. As he stood waiting to place their order, a blonde-haired girl approached him, smiling widely. "Hi, handsome," she said, twirling a lock of hair around her finger. Javan gave her a quick, uncertain smile. "Hi." She raised an eyebrow, curious. "Who are you getting the ice cream for?" Before he could answer, a voice cut sharply through the air — not his own. "His girlfriend. Any problems?”
