EMMALINE Her face freezes. That is all the answer I need, though the words never leave her mouth. For the first time in weeks, maybe months, I had dared to believe. To hope that things between us could finally be fixed. That after everything, after the blood and the bitterness and the endless walls we built between us, there was still something worth saving.
