The highway blurs past in streaks of gray and green, but I don’t see any of it.
All I can see is Liam’s face. His smile. The way he laughs when I chase him around the yard.

My hands are fisted so tight my nails are cutting into my palms, drawing blood. I don’t care. The pain is nothing compared to the terror clawing through my chest.
Enzo hasn’t said a word since we got in the car. He just drives, pushing the engine past every safe limit, weaving through traffic like our lives depend on it.
