The noise of the festival faded behind me as I slipped away from the royal pavilion, trailing Isagi's scent.
His scent was faint and difficult to track. He’d used masking spells, blended into the environment, and scattered false scents and presences around the woods.
The fact that the dimwit was too good at hiding only pissed me off more. He knew I'd come here, he knew I'd come after him the second I found out he had disappeared, so he made tracking him take more concentration than it should have.
He was being corny, and trying to get under my skin like he always did.
But as I moved deeper into the woods, I felt a slick presence, trying to merge with the woods while following me closely.
