Emily pov It's my wedding. I wasn't excited nor happy. I wished to have a grand wedding and live happily ever after like those told in the fairy tales, but here I was crying. "Sweetheart, you are going to ruin your makeup" she said with her sweetest voice, looking at my face and she went on. "I know you're not happy, but this is the best you can do for the family. C'mon everyone is waiting for you" She gave me a hug, I didn't wish to entangle, it was a form of therapy, just right there on my mother's shoulder as she tapped my back. I disentangled and adjusted myself and walked out with her as my father walked me down the aisle. I was welcomed by happy faces, smiling at me and cheering me up while some were sending me deadly glares. I looked up and there he was, looking handsome as he used to be on the front page of every magazine. "Do you take Emily as your lawfully wedded wife, to be loved and cherished till death do you, path?" "I do" I watched as the priest recited those Val's as I watched him say I do under my veil. Of course, why won't you say that as I was sold like a piece of bag, off. "Do you take Gideon as your lawfully wedded husband, to be loved and cherished till death is your path?" I paused for a moment, looking through the crowd. I can see some faces gesturing to me to say yes. I pulled through looking through the eyes of the person who was going to be my husband in the next few seconds. This wasn't the marriage I wanted, this wasn't the life I wanted to live. Looking at my mum amidst the crowd she gave a side smile which was filled with so many emotions. Last night when she came into my room, I wet my pillow with water as I cried" This isn't what I want mum. "I know sweetie, but you are going to pull this off. I know you are a strong girl. Just do this for me". "Why does Dad gain by making my life miserable, I don't love him?" "It is okay darling, everything is going to be alright, I'm here for you". She stayed with me and allowed me to sob on her shoulder before thrifting to sleep. I didn't say a word after the priest recited those words as I watched my dad.He had a gloomy face at the thought of me not saying anything yet. "Emily, you have to get married to Gideon" as he said a few weeks after he got out of the hospital. "Dad, but I don't love him! "You don't have to be selfish, Emily, this is the only chance we have got to save our business. "I can't sacrifice my happiness" l was a dutiful daughter, always willing to help out in any way I could, but this was overboard as I didn't have to sacrifice my happiness. I had once put down in my diary how my big day was going to be, but it turned out to be the worst. "The wedding is in two weeks", he dropped the bombshell. I shifted back and looked at him with my mouth wide open. "What! Two weeks ago, I didn't even have a say in my own wedding. Why the rush? You just informed me I was getting married to someone I barely know and now the wedding is in two weeks." I was sweating profusely and felt some migraine coming. I couldn't digest the information as hot tears dripped down my cheeks and it happened again. I began to stammer. I couldn't express myself anymore because of the discontent I had over the wedding. I hate myself being in such a pitiful position as I ran to my room, locked myself up and cried to my heart's content. Those memories come flashing back. "I do" she finally spoke up. "You may kiss the bride," the priest announced. Keep it together, it's going to be a few moments. I thought to myself as the groom moved forward. I had a dream, probably dreams of having a passionate kiss with the one my heart beats for. Entangled in his embrace as we shared those moments together being cheered by the crowd, it was supposed to be a happy moment but it was the opposite. "He kneeled forward, raising my veil, he motioned forward and gave me more of a peek. It seems he read my mind. Impressive! I thought. We were crowned by family and friends who extended their congratulatory message as I composed myself and flashed fake smiles across. It's going to be a long forever, I thought. The after party continued as the wedding ceremony continued. I can only think back to when I was a child. It was a happy session for me and I wished I could go back to it. "Mrs Gonzalez, the car is ready", as someone tapped my shoulder. "Oh OK!" I looked up, it was Gideon's bodyguard. "This way", as I trailed behind him to where the car was parked. Looking over to the opposite side, Gideon was seated as he gave an expressionless face. As we began the journey to the mansion, It was quiet as I focused my gaze across the window and the car moved steadily. I wasn't thinking, I was lost in thought in old memories. "Do you smoke? He asked in a cold and sharp tone. I turned my gaze and gave him a fierce gaze. "Put that off", steaming in a harsh tone, he looked at me puffing the smoke into the air. "Nobody orders me around," he said. I was calling on to pass down my purse but it came out as a whisper as I gasped for air, pointing at my purse. I was screaming for air before I passed out. All I heard before it finally went blank was him calling on his bodyguard to stop the car. I woke up to some pairs of eyes staring back at me. I coughed for them to adjust and noticed I was fully aware. Gideon adjusted swiftly, just like his bodyguard. He looked like someone who went on a crazy horse ride with plums falling down from the horse multiple times. I cleared my throat and he adjusted to the opposite side. "You are asthmatic?" He finally asked with puffing eyes, rubbing his tempo. I nodded and looked away. He must have been scared, just only a few people knew I was asthmatic. I tried keeping it under control as the memory flashed back, the last time I had an attack. It was 10 years ago. I was heading home and got stuck in traffic. I was there for over 20 minutes and didn't know my car was faulty as I was in a hurry and didn't have some spare time to check out the car before driving off. I had a smooth ride while going. It was when I was coming back that I got stuck. There was smoke all over the car as I tried opening the door when I noticed it on time but didn't budge to open. I screamed from the window for some help but to no avail as I had mistakenly left my inhaler in the boot out of carelessness. I passed out. I thought I was dead because there wasn't any sign of anyone hearing or coming to help. I opened my eyes to some machines connected all over my body. It was damn on me I was in the hospital. My mother was beside me when I woke up. I was lucky to know the girl who saved me. She said she was at the back of my car but had several horns, but my car wasn't moving. She went down to find out the problem and found out I had already passed out. She quickly rushed me to the hospital after she had successfully opened the door. "Thank you for saving me" I said when she finally came to visit me at the hospital. "You should be careful, next time you might not get this lucky" as she rubbed my hands. I nodded at her and understood how risky it was. I knew I was asthmatic but hadn't experienced this extent of crisis. I feared for my life and took the necessary precautions. We were discharged from the hospital as she kept on visiting and checking up on me on a regular basis and that's how she became my best friend. When she heard of my wedding, after telling her on the phone, I tried to compose myself so she wouldn't notice my cold feeling towards it. "What about Aaron? I have admired you guys from a distance" she said. I tried to resist the tears that were about to flow down. If I allowed it to come down, I was going to stammer and she would sense that something was up. With the coolest voice I could hold onto, I gave her a reply I wasn't sure of but I got to lie. "We broke up", I gasped when I spoke to him about the wedding and how it turned out. "I'm so sorry sweetie, you went through such a heartbreak. l know it must have been traumatic for you, you should have told me." The phone was silent for some time as I couldn't give her any further explanation. "It's fine, if you don't want to talk about it, just know I'm here for you." She said sincerely, she gave some explanation why she wouldn't be making it for the wedding. I knew she wouldn't be coming as she went out of town to attend to urgent matters, but I just had to inform her, but she promised to make it up to me whenever she gets back. Hope she is well, I thought to myself. I got a tap on my shoulder. "We are home, Mrs Gonzalez", Gideon's bodyguard said. I was drenched in thought and didn't notice we were already at the mansion. Gideon was already out as I didn't notice when the car came to a halt. I was welcome by Mrs Mira, Gideon's mother who was all smiling when I stepped into the house. The house was fanciful, but it was a hellhole for me. It was a new beginning, a new beginning of forever for me.
