VALERIAN
I woke up with a throbbing pain in my stomach. I quickly opened my eyes, and a strange place welcomed me. I immediately noticed the bandage wrapped around my waist. Memories are now starting to come back bit by bit. A group of men ambushed our car. I got hit, and the next thing that happened comes in blurry.
"Boss! You're awake."
That's the only time I notice my consignee, Giovanni Lorenzo, talking to a woman right now. I squinted my eyes, trying to remember the woman he was talking to.
"Who knows about my location right now, Lorenzo?" I asked as I tried to get up from the metal table that I'm lying on.
Giovanni was quick to help me get up as he put on my trenchcoat.
"As of now, no one, boss. Once I get your emergency signal, I figure that there's a traitor inside, and I need to move carefully," he answered.
"Good job, Giovanni. Now, we need some cleaning to do," I replied. While I was buttoning my coat, I noticed the woman standing in the corner. I quickly drew the gun from Giovanni's waist and pointed it at her. "You, who are you, and what did you do to me?" I asked coldly while pointing the gun at her. I immediately saw her body shiver in fear.
"Boss, I think she's the doctor who fixed your gunshot wound and saved you," Giovanni explained while he was gently trying to lower the gun in my hand.
"I don't want to repeat myself twice," I said, glaring at the woman who supposedly saved my life.
"My name is...B-Bianca Frost," she stuttered.
There's something wrong with her voice. "Are you sure she's the one who saved me?" I asked Giovanni.
"Yes, boss. She was the only one here when I arrived. I found her checking your wound," he answered.
Though I have my doubts, I still owe her my life.
"I see. Bring her," I ordered.
"Yes, boss," he answered.
I took my first step, but my legs betrayed me. I couldn't walk properly. My head started spinning, and my vision started to get blurry.
"You still need to go to the hospital, sir. You lost a lot of blood," the woman who was standing in the corner reminded me.
Even her voice is different from what I remembered.
I glared at her for a second. There's something inside me that's telling me something is wrong, but I couldn't tell which one it was.
"Giovanni..."
"Yes, boss?"
"Bring her," I ordered.
"On it, boss."
It didn't take long before a few of Giovanni's most trusted men went inside the laboratory. I couldn't properly walk, so I had no choice but to let them help me.
Once we reached the car, we went straight to our private laboratory inside the building that I owned. The doctor in there immediately tended to my needs. They transferred blood into my system to help me recuperate much faster.
"What's the matter? Is his wound more serious than we thought?" Giovanni couldn't contain his worry as he noticed the doctor's continued silence.
"The surgery went well," the doctor said. "I must say, whoever did this has an incredible skill to perform such a delicate operation given her limited tools. Did you say the operation was done inside a school medical laboratory?"
"Yes, doc. It seems like it," Giovanni replied.
"You owe her your life, boss. If it hadn't been for her, I would be tending a corpse, not a patient," he added.

"Here's the report that you asked, boss," Giovanni said as he handed me the report that I asked from him.
I flip the pages one by one, but as I go further into the report, I get even more agitated. It's been two weeks since the incident. My body slowly recovers from the damage that I acquired from that incident. The moment I got back on my feet, I didn't waste any minutes trying to figure out who's behind the ambush.
Aside from that, I also asked Giovanni to give me a full report of what happened that night as well as all the information he could gather about the woman who saved me.
"That's it? Is this all the information you can get? How about the CCTV from the school premises? Why don't I have a copy of that?" I asked in irritation.
"All the cameras on the premises during that night didn't have any record of you entering the building, boss. It was as if you were never there. The only record we recovered is when Miss Bianca went back to the laboratory shortly before we arrived," he explained. "Is there anything you would like to know about, boss? Is there anything missing in the report?" he asked curiously.
I exhaled audibly, a mix of frustration and resignation in the air. There was no use in dwelling over this when every piece of evidence seemed to lead towards her.
"So, it was truly her who came to my rescue that night?" A hint of disbelief punctuated the words as they left my mouth.
Giovanni, my steadfast consigliere and right-hand man, gazed at me, his eyes harboring the questions he longed to voice. "Do you have anyone else in mind, boss?"
"No," I retorted, the iciness in my tone serving as a protective barrier. I had no intention of sharing my uncertainties with Giovanni, especially when those doubts were founded on shaky ground. It was not the time to entertain those thoughts. "Make sure Bianca gets everything she needs."
Giovanni nodded, acknowledging the order, though a flicker of concern crossed his face. He then ventured into a matter that had been a lingering thorn in our side. "And the traitor? What should we do about them?"
My jaw clenched as the weight of responsibility settled heavily on my shoulders. The mere mention of the traitor's existence stoked the fires of determination within me. "Handle it discreetly," I instructed, my voice carrying a trace of firmness. "But make certain our methods leave no trace behind. We cannot afford any missteps this time."
With that, Giovanni departed, leaving me alone with my thoughts.
