MORGAN
One week later...
"Look at where you're going, dimwit!" Evan, one of the most notorious bullies at the university, snapped at me when I accidentally bumped into him while I was on my way to the library.
I stare at him with a straight face while I'm contemplating whether I should give him what he deserves or ignore him just like I always do. He's the son of one of the richest investors at this university. That's why he always acts as if he owns everyone. He thinks that he's untouchable. But what he doesn't know is that I can ruin his whole life without lifting a finger. His closet was threshold, and I can't wait to bring all of his skeletons hidden in his closet.
"What are you staring at, weirdo?" he said again with irritation.
One of his subordinates was so unable to tolerate my attitude that he couldn't help but butt in. "She's not showing you any respect, bro. She's the only one at Hudson University who dares to defy you."
Evan's anger flared up, and he swiftly confronted me. "Are you deaf? I'm talking to you," he growled, reaching for my arm.
I halted and nonchalantly disposed of her gum. "Move." One word was delivered with an icy tone, but it cut through the tension.
Evan chuckled. "You've got some nerve. You've just crossed a line you shouldn't have."
Before he could act, I deftly tossed him over my shoulder, leaving him incapacitated on the ground. He attempted to bluster, "Do you know who my dad is? My dad..."
I couldn't stand his continued blather and firmly pressed my foot against his face. "Shut up." My irritation was evident.
The other members of his group were awestruck by my skill.
"Call my dad! I'm going to make sure she can't survive in Hudson," Evan yelled desperately.
"Go on, daddy's boy. Call your dad."I leaned closer to his ear and whispered, "Let's see what your mother will say when I release these photos on the internet." I showed him one of the photos I retrieved when I hacked his father's computer. It was a photo of his father participating in an orgy party. That wasn't the worst thing that I found on his computer. I will reveal that at the right time. I think this will be enough to keep his mouth shut in the meantime.
I saw how his blood drained out of his body, and his face turned pale. He gulped as his body started to shiver in fear. His eyes widen, and he remains silent in shock.
"That's what I thought..." I said this upon seeing the fear in his eyes. I smirked before leaving him stunned. Even his friends were shocked by what happened. They had no idea what happened or why Evan let me off the hook.
As I continued to walk my way to my class, I noticed a commotion happening along the hallway. I raised my eyebrow and lengthened my neck out of curiosity. I was dumbfounded when my eyes landed on those familiar green eyes that have been giving me sleepless nights these past few days.
What is he doing here? Did he find out what I did that night?
Suddenly, I felt conscious about how I looked today. I was wearing my uniform, so I don't think it really matters. But somehow, I wanted to look good when I saw him again.
My breathing becomes heavier as he slowly walks in my direction. My chest tightened, feeling nervous about how our second meeting would go. I could feel the butterflies in my stomach as he approached me. I hitched my breath when our eyes met. I bit my lower lip, trying to hold back the unfamiliar feeling caused by his mesmerizing green eyes.
But everything went down the drain when he suddenly walked past me as if he didn't know me. That's when I realized that he was not here for me.
I followed him with a gaze, trying to figure out what the real purpose of his coming here to our university was. I raised my eyebrow as my curiosity grew upon seeing him talking to Miss Frost, our anatomy professor.
Since when did they two know each other?
Out of my growing curiosity, I walked closer to them. I brought out my earpiece that serves as a listening device. It's also one of the devices that I created. I put it in my ear and opened the app on my phone that was associated with the device.
"Thank you for taking care of me. I really appreciate it," Miss Bianca said as she kept on brushing her hair with her fingers.
I can't stop myself from squinting my eyes at her when I notice how she deliberately flirts with the gorgeous man standing in front of her. I'm not sure why I was feeling pissed while watching and listening to them. But before I could even figure out what I was feeling, someone grabbed the phone from my hand.
My eyes widen in surprise when I figure out who the man was who snatched my phone away. He was wearing a black suit, which happens to be similar to the men that arrived together with the man Miss Bianca was currently talking to.
"What's going on there?" said the familiar baritone voice.
"I caught her spying on you, boss. What do you want me to do with her?" The man who was holding my phone answered.
I looked at him, and I was immediately greeted by his cold and mesmerizing eyes. I hitched my breath when she started to take a step closer to us without breaking eye contact. I had no idea that I had been holding my breath the whole time. I feel like he was staring at me for the longest time. My eyes grow wider and wider as he slowly takes the distance between us until we're inches away from each other. My throat suddenly feels dry. I gulped to remove the lump in my throat.
"Get her phone and release her. She's just a child," he said after a few minutes of silence.
I let out a sigh of relief when he finally took a step back.
"You're lucky our boss let you off the hook. Stop meddling in other people's business if you want to live longer," said the man who grabbed my phone.
They all left after that. All eyes were on them as they strutted along the corridors of the university. It didn't bother me that they got my phone since that's only my spare one. As if on cue, my other phone started ringing while I was watching them leave the university. I gave him one final look before I shifted my attention to my phone. My mind is in conflict over whether I'm going to answer the call or not. The number may not be saved on my phone, but I know exactly to whom it belongs.
After a couple minutes of debating with myself, I decided to answer it. "Hello," I greeted.
"I think I have been fair with you for the last few years, Morgan. It's time for you to come home," said the voice from the other line.
"But grandfather..."
"No buts, Morgan. Quit from that school; I already arranged your papers for your new school. You'll be taking business class as your preparation for taking over the company," he added.
"And what did my father say about this?"
"He can say nothing that will make me change my mind. I have no plan of leaving even a single cent for them."
My grandfather sounded serious. It seems like I have no other choice but to go back and do his bidding. I took a loud breath, feeling defeated.
"As they said, good things never last forever. I'll come home, grandfather," I agreed.
"Good. I'll send you a ticket. I'll see you soon." That's the last thing he said before hanging up the phone.
It didn't take long before I received another notification in my email. "That was fast," I mumbled while reading what's inside the email. I stared at the plane ticket for a few minutes before letting out a loud sigh. "I guess this is it."
