CHAPTER 4-OLD LIFE, NEW MORGAN

1351 Words
MORGAN An expensive car was already waiting for me outside the airport. I saw a man holding a huge card with my name on it. It's definitely my grandfather who sent it. But instead of walking towards the man waiting for me, I walked in the opposite direction. Though I agreed to go back to this chaotic life, I have no intention of sharing a roof with those vultures. After all, they were the reason I had to leave and live under aliases. I escaped death, but since then, no one knows where I am. They already attempted to kill me once; no one can guarantee that they won't try it again. I hailed a cab and made my way directly to the hotel that I booked. Upon arriving at the hotel and completing the check-in process, I decided to freshen up and take a shower before I went to the Brown's residence. I needed to calm my head before facing them again. I'm already expecting that it will be tiring. I took my time in the bathroom. I soaked my body in a warm bubble bath to clear my head and relax. Once I'm satisfied, I rinse the soap from my body in the shower. I reached for the towel as I finished. I dry myself before wrapping my body in a bathrobe. I looked myself in the mirror, dried my hair with the blower, and finally applied a little bit of make-up. Once I'm finished, I grab my suitcase and open it. I choose to wear a white shirt, denim jeans, and white sneakers. I topped my shirt with a black leather jacket. I tied my long black hair up. I throw a final glance at the full-length mirror. Just when I was about to finish, I heard a soft knock from the door. I peeked at the peephole to know who it was. When I made sure that it was hotel staff, I opened the door. "Someone left a motorcycle key in the parking area for you, Miss Brown," she said as she handed me the key. "Thank you," I replied before taking the key from her. "It's showtime," I mumbled before grabbing my bag and heading to the parking area. * * * * The guard halted me at the entrance of the gate. I had to remove my helmet to let them know who I was. They were all surprised when they saw me. They quickly opened the gate in panic. The entrance to Brown's residence was the same as it was. Nothing much has changed aside from the people residing inside. I parked my motorcycle before walking towards the door. It was already open, so nobody noticed my presence when I entered the house. "Mom, you mean Morgan is back?" Emma's expression soured upon hearing the news. "Yes, I heard Henry ask someone to pick her up at the airport," Jessica, my stepmother, responded with a less-than-pleasant expression. "What? Why would my grandfather do that? Mom, you can't let this happen. She can't go back here. Please do something!" she said, raising her voice as she walked back and forth around the living room. "Will you stop fidgeting? I have to think of something!" she shouted with the same ferocity. I kind of enjoy watching them panic upon the news of my return. That's why I remained silent and continued to watch them formulate a new plan to eliminate me. But my plan was immediately cut off when Emma eventually noticed my presence. I smirked upon seeing how their faces turned pale, as if all her blood had escaped from her body. "Hello, sister. You look like you've seen a ghost." I asked mockingly. "Morgan, why are you so thick-skinned? If I were you, I would be embarrassed to live in this world." Emma's harsh words pierced the air. "What would I be ashamed of, dear sister?" I asked innocently, pretending I didn't have any idea what she was talking about. She smirked confidently as she crossed her arms in front of her chest. "The whole world knows what you did, Morgan. You left because you had an abortion and because you had a secret affair with an old man. I don't know how you managed to show your face after what you did. If I were you, I would just kill myself." "Why don't you?" I asked sarcastically. "That would have been better than trying to kill me, right?" She was too stunned to speak. I saw her clench her fist as her jaw tightened in anger. "You b***h!" she shouted, and she was about to launch an attack against me. But the loud and thundering voice coming from the staircase startled us. We all look in its direction at once. "Quiet, both of you!" Henry, my grandfather, descended from the second floor. "Henry, what's the meaning of this? What is she doing here?" Jessica asked him. "Morgan is my granddaughter. She should live at the Brown residence. If either of you says another word, get out of here." "Henry, you can't be like this." Jessica said it in disbelief. "It's not up for debate, Jessica," Henry said, ending whatever Jessica was about to say. "Morgan, come here; I haven't seen you in five years." My heart ached seeing my grandfather's hair turn all white, but I walked up to him obediently. "Pops, I'm here." He tore my hand. "I wasn't able to comfort and take care of you for the past five years, but now that you're back, I'll make sure that no one dares to bully you as long as I'm here." "Thank you, Pops," I said, expressing my gratitude. He was the only person in the family who believed in me unconditionally. "You kid, how can you thank me? Butler, go clean up Morgan's room," Henry said nonchalantly. "Pops, you don't have to worry about me," I stated. I come here primarily to see him, but I have no plans of staying. "Besides, I have a place to stay, and I don't intend to live here." "That's nonsense. This house is too big for all of us. As long as I'm here, no one will dare lay their hands on you," he said, which sounded like a warning to those who wish me dead. "Jessica and Morgan are going to school tomorrow. She needed to attend some class." "Henry, Morgan was expelled from school five years ago. Now, I'm afraid no school was willing to accept her." Henry assuredly responded, "You don't have to worry about it. I have already arranged everything for Morgan. She's going to study in school, where Emma is." "Henry, do you think one of the finest schools in New York is a vegetable market? It would be a shame if you enrolled Morgan there. Even those with money and power may not get in. Emma got in based on her own abilities. What does she know? She only knows how to fight and hang out with gangsters." With a sharp slam of his cane against the floor, Henry created a strong enough sound to shut them up. "Jessica, if you say one more word, I'm going to expel you and your daughter out of this house," he warned. "Alright, I understand," she conceded. "I'm glad everything is clear now. Morgan, please stay. I will greatly appreciate your presence here in my house," he insisted. "Yes, grandfather," I finally agreed. I planted a soft kiss on his forehead before he went back to his room. After a few minutes of silence, I heard Emma's voice once again. "Morgan, I really didn't expect that you would dare to come back," Emma's face twisted with a cruelty unbecoming of her age. I fetched a piece of chewing gum from my pocket, unwrapped it, and chewed it thoughtfully as I looked at her, uninterested. I saw her jaw tighten. "Morgan, I'll kick you out of the Brown family!" she threatened. I didn't dignify Emma's words with a response. I turned my back and went upstairs to my old room. *************
