“Good God,” Tommy exclaimed when his brother’s butler came in with a response from Sir John. “Look at the time. You do tell an intriguing tale, but we had best get ready now.” Tommy had been right. Sir John readily agreed with the time my friend had set. We left the parlour and hurried upstairs. Tommy led me to his room, which was just across the landing from the one I’d been given. He rifled through his wardrobe and finally selected a finely-made suit of black wool he was certain would fit me. “Tommy, are you sure?
