"Oh," Talia moaned as she gripped her forehead and staggered to her feet. "Juliet, help me to the bathroom. I think I'm going to puke."
"No, one of the Nelson brothers will help you!" Irma urged as she raised her arm to point at the lazy brothers who leaned against each other sitting in the corner of the lab. They were disgusting men, fat, lazy, rude, and smelly. Why Irma felt the need to keep them around was beyond me, but I wasn't about to ask her that.
"Why? So they could try something with me again?" Talia clapped back as she shot them both a glare. They quickly stood up and placed their hands over their privates. I smirked, knowing Talia probably kicked them both, even though she was weak. A week had passed since I made my escape, and Talia had been bugging me daily to try again for us both. As much as I detested Talia Banks for being the typical mean girl throughout high school and now college. I couldn't in good conscience leave her to rot here, no matter how many times that image passed in my mind. Irma just looked shocked, so I power-walked toward her and placed her arm over my shoulder.
"No funny business!" Dr. Logue cried out as we walked into the bathroom. Talia smiled a little as she made retching noises close to the toilet. I quickly turned on the sink and carefully pulled back the a/c grate. Making our escape once again, trying to remember which turns I had to make, which twists led which way. Until finally, we dropped down in the same room I found myself in before. Opening the door, I carefully peered out before the blaring alarm went off once again. That blasted alarm that I seemed to dread its existence echoed down every hallway, every corridor, every corner of this awful building. Sucking in a deep breath, I moved out and began running down the hall, making a sharp right. Talia had finally agreed to my plan. She had been as nice as she could muster, which earned her extra food and water. We bated our time, we needed to get up our strength. Sure, it would never be enough to shift, not in the least bit. Not with the Nelson brothers putting in that awful gas every day. We waited, we watched. Finally, when we were brought into her lab for more experiments, Talia agreed to create a big scene. Something she was very good at. And we would get into the bathroom and leave. It was our last and only shot at freedom. Making a left turn, I came across cells from my first escape. Not the way I wanted to go, but I knew there was still an exit door just around the corner. Stopping at a metal door with a window, unlike the others I could peek into, so I stopped Talia.
"Give me your hair pen," I ordered Talia. She did as I said, looking over her shoulder to make sure we weren't being followed. "They must look at you a lot," I tossed the hair pen inside the cell, toward the creature covered in darkness. "You should get free most of all." I know every one of the others deserved freedom and honestly, I couldn't say why I did that, but having to be in an unknown location and having people gawk at you was horrible. Grabbing onto Talia's wrist, we made that last left and pushed open the door to a bright world. Trying to hold back our squeals of excitement at having made it, we grabbed each other's hands and ran as fast as we could, still feeling the effects of having half the food and the gas that lingered through us.
"Ahhh!" I felt the air leave my lungs as I heard Talia scream. She was yanked back with force as she thudded to the ground. I, unfortunately, had just been kicked in the back with incredible force.
I carefully turned over, leaves in my hair, and dirt in my face as I looked up at Beatrice. "How do you like my new and improved niece?" Irma taunted as she came into full view, looming over me. "You know, I lost my last subject when I tried to inject them with your wolf's blood. You remember Claude Theriot, don't you?" A vile smirk plastered on her pale lips. My eyes expanded at the name of the sweetest man, the man who reminded me of my grandfather. He tried to help, and I got him killed. "Yes, pity, you killed him. He was an excellent cook. Anyway, I perfected the blood and gave it to my niece. Of course, it doesn't last forever. But not to worry, I am a scientist. I will figure out how to change humans into werewolves, and then there will be no stopping me." A cackle nothing short of disturbing came spilling out from her mouth. "Get them inside!" She ordered to the Nelson brothers. I didn't miss the shocked look on Beatrice's face when she said Claude had died when she gave him the serum. Maybe Talia was right. Maybe she needs that push to get us out of here and away from her aunt before she gets corrupted. A black haze washed over me and something hard hit my skull.
"Juliet!" Talia cried out as I blinked rapidly to adjust my eyes. "Juliet!"
"Yeah?" I replied as I sat up, grabbing a hold of my head. We weren't healing as fast as we normally did because of all the gas. I guess with me being here so long, I should be used to it.
"We almost got free," she whispered. I could tell she had been crying. She had only been here a little over a week. She had no idea what this place does to you. She was in for a long and terrible ride. I wanted to tell her, but I knew it would only make the fear worse.
"I know," I said, barely audible. I knew she would hear me, regardless. "Try to sleep,"
"We missed our opportunity,"
