Chapter 7 The night was dark and wet, with sleet coming down in white sheets, coating every surface with lumpy bits of ice. As the bus swerved around the wide corners of downtown Duluth, Ryan felt Erik’s hip press into his side. It felt nice and warm. Erik had chosen to sit next to him on the way home, near the back of the bus, the two of them sharing a seat, even though there were enough seats for every athlete to sit alone. Ryan was looking forward to the two and a half hour drive to chat with Erik and get to the bottom of this mystery—gay or straight? The rain kept falling and the streets were slick—so slick that the bus slipped right past a red light and out into a busy intersection. Half a dozen cars honked their horns, but amazingly, the bus slid through to the other side unscathed
