14 The cop eased away from the station, not in a hurry. He didn’t want to draw unnecessary attention to himself. He followed the patrol car from a few spaces behind, knowing what he was doing was a risk, but he had no choice. If Officer Murphy was helping the vigilante, like so many people suspected, he needed to know. He needed proof. Proof that would give him cause to have Officer Murphy in jail like he should be, and the vigilante in the ground. Like she deserved to be. The call earlier said another present was left for the police. That was what she called them, the people she picked up. And the more presents she left, the more heat was on the cop. Trevor was getting pissed as his network was shrinking. People were afraid of getting hauled off to jail for work they’d done for years.
