HEART BROKEN - PART III

1392 Words
Since I destroyed my alarm clock, I had to use my phone as an alarm to wake me up. Last night, Chris and I stayed up a bit late, while I packed for my trip. I don't know why my presence was needed but I was excited for the trip, even though it was work. Jayson had called me last night to tell me he had to cancel the trip, so it would just be me and Mr. Nightingale. "Lord help me." Axel Nightingale isn't an easy man to work with or for. Ever since I started working for him, I had to wonder if or when he will fire me. Jayson had told me that he don't keep one personal assistant for too long but it has been a year so I guess I'm lucky. I woke up at 6:30 am, to make sure I have everything for this trip. Who knows, I just may enjoy this. Chris had said to look at it as a vacation, which was far from it. After my shower, I curled my hair in some loose curls and put on a navy blue tight fitted dress along with a black 2" heels. Since it was still early, Chris was still asleep even though she should be up soon for work. She has her dinner tomorrow night with Lucas and as much as I wanted to be there for her, I had to go on this trip. At exactly 8 am, a honking sound can be heard from the outside of the house. With a glance in at Chris, I gently closed her door and grabbed my bags then walked out the door. A man was standing at the passengers' door of a black SUV dressed in a well pressed suit. As I approached the vehicle, he opened the door and took my bag and put it in the back. Sitting in the jeep was a straight-faced Mr. Nightingale typing away at his phone. "Ms. Storm, we have a plane to catch. No time to dilly dally." He said without looking up from his phone. I stepped in the jeep and the driver closed the door. "Good morning sir." I said as I sat next to him. He nodded and the driver started the jeep and pulled away from the side walk. The entire ride was silent. I couldn't believe I was stuck in this vehicle with him when he couldn't put away his phone for two minutes to have a conversation with me, if not to tell me exactly what this trip entails and why my presence would be needed. Eventually, we pulled up at his private jet and he got out, still with his face plastered in the phone. The driver removed the bags from the vehicle and I followed Mr. Nightingale, while the driver followed behind with the bags. We then entered the plane and he took a seat in the second row, close to the aisle. My foot caught under one of the seats and I fell in his lap. His face was blank of all emotions. "There are a lot of seats to sit in Ms. Storm." He let out and I stood with a small sorry and took the seat adjacent to him. I glanced over at him and noticed he was already looking at me and I gave him a small smile and looked away. The air hostess had come to introduced herself. She gave us a list of what would be served on the flight and asked if we would be needing anything before the plane lifts off. All the while she was flirting with Mr. Nightingale and I couldn't help but shoot daggers at her. He wasn't mine to be jealous but I hate when women are so desperate for a man's attention. As if he can sense the tension in the room, he looked up from his phone and saw her flipping her hair in a seductive way. With no emotions showing on his face, he returned to his phone without even answering her questions. Sadly, she returned to the front of the plane and I couldn't help the chuckle that left my lips. From the corner of my eye, I can see him looking at me but I couldn't bring myself to look to his direction. The light dinged for the seat belt and the pilot notified us that we would be taking off and to have a wonderful trip. I fastened my seat belt and held onto the sides of the chair. It wasn't my first time flying but I seriously hated when the planes lift off, with all the shaking. With all the fright within me, I felt a gentle hand on mine. When I looked at the hand and looked in his eyes, I couldn't imagine he had that side of him to care for someone other than himself. He squeezed my hand like he was trying to assure me that everything was okay. I wanted to take his word for it but then the plane started jolting and shaking vigorously. Suddenly, the pilot came back on through the speakers, apologizing for the bad lift off. Finally, the plane was in the air and he removed his hand from mine. I looked over at him but he was facing forward but the minute I looked away, he looked at me and I smiled internally. 'Never a dull moment'. Once again, the pilot was again on the intercom to notify that we can remove our seat belts and the electronic signal was turned off and we were free to use our phones and computers again. With that, I pulled out my phone to check for messages and missed calls from Chris and Jayson. Nothing. "Guess I'm not missed after all." I mumbled under my breath. "We won't land for another five hours, so you can take a nap if you like. Won't want you to fall asleep on me during the meeting." Mr. Nightingale stated as he fluffed a pillow. I guess being in the same room this long with him, brings out a caring side. I don't know. I asked the air hostess for a pillow and placed it under my head. Pushing back the seat in a laying position, I laid back and relaxed as the soothing music playing over the speakers lulled me to sleep. Uncertain of how long I slept for, I was being shaken awake by a firm hand. "Ms. Storm, we're here." My eyes fluttered open and Mr. Nightingale was standing above me. The scent of his aftershave wafted through my nostrils. He smelt divine. He jolt back from my view and walked away from my sight and out of the plane. 'This man, one minute he's caring and the next minute he's cold as ice'. I picked up my bag from the adjacent seat and walked off the plane, smiling to the air hostess as I exited. It was now 1:30 pm when we had exited the plane. Mr. Nightingale was already seated in the awaited SUV, already busy on his phone. "Does he ever take a break?" I slid in next to him and the driver closed the door then drove off. "We would check into the hotel, then head to the first meeting in the lobby. Later this evening we have a late dinner with some clients and I would like for you to be there as well. So, make sure your ready by 7 pm." "Ok sir." Was all I said and looked out of the window for the rest of the journey to the hotel. Luckily it was a short drive. When we got to the hotel, Mr. Nightingale took a seat, while I went and get our room keys. "Hi good afternoon, my name is Nora Storm. I called and booked two rooms." The receptionist smiled at me and went to check her computer for the room bookings. "I'm sorry Ms. Storm but there was a problem with one of the rooms and the hotel is booked out." "Excuse me? So, there is nothing else available?" Mr. Nightingale was going to kill me. "No please. I'm sorry for the inconvenience." I held a finger in front of her, asking for a minute as I tell Mr. Nightingale of the current situation.
