My mind was stuck on one thing - I couldn't handle this pain anymore. Many weeks passed, enduring Luca's hurt until my body could take no more. I couldn't bear being a victim any longer; it was time for me to decide.
Lying on my side, Luca held me tightly from behind. His arm was over my chest, and his hand gripped my arm to keep me in place. His other arm lay flat under my neck on the mattress. I had given up without a fight, and self-hatred filled me up.
Luca's breath was steady, signaling he was still asleep. We hardly spent any time apart, and he made sure of that. I didn't dare move, trying hard to steady my own breath. The only way out seemed to be either to harm him or myself.
