THIRTEENHONEY DIDN’T HAVE A PLAN until she hit the water and sank a good ten feet. During the fall, she had instinctively taken in a huge breath of air. The water shocked her with its chill, but she was not frightened to disappear into its dark womb of silence. The nun’s habit wasn’t that much of a drag underwater. It was made of lightweight material for summer wear. She knew she could swim in it. Her adrenaline had taken over. Her mind was racing. The cold and darkness of the water jolted her into thinking beyond her first instinct to resurface for air.
