***Mabel POV******

After many interviews with different companies in New York, I finally secured a position as a clerk at Xi conglomerates.

It was my first day at work, I had to dress my best. Thirty minutes later, I was standing in front of Xi conglomerates.

One of the largest conglomerates in the city.

“Hello, Good morning.” I greeted the receptionist I met in the lobby.

“Hello, how may I help you?” she asked.

“I was sent an employment letter via Email, to resume work today as the new clerk.” I replied.

“Okay, then. Follow me.” she said, a smile graced her lips.

A few minutes into walking, we got to the manager’s office.

“Good morning, sir, this is the new clerk you requested me to send to your office.”

“I was expecting her, please have a sit,” he responded, his gaze buried in the document on his desk.

“You’re the new clerk. I see.” his gaze hovering over my voluptuous chest and cupid bow lips. Which made me feel uncomfortable.

“Yes sir, I was emailed to resume work today.” I replied.

“Am aware of that. Please follow me, let me show you to your new office.” He said, without taking his eyes off my body. I could see the erotic desires in his eyes.

“Here we go. This is it, and before I forget, you have work to do. I'll advice you start now.” he said, handing me some documents.

“Okay sir, I'll go over it and get back to you.”

It was past lunch time, and the receptionist at the lobby was kind, to take me for lunch.

On our way back from lunch, we bumped into the manager.

“Good day sir,” we chorused, with our gaze down.

“Ms Mabel, I want to have a word with you.” the manager said.

“Yes sir,” I replied, as the receptionist scurried away.

The manager marched closer to me. With just an inch of space between us.

“I'm sure you're enjoying this job and would want to keep it, right?” He said, with a smirk on his face.

“Yes sir, Am enjoying my new job. Thank you for asking.” I replied, sounding nervous.

“I can help you retain this job for the rest of your life, only if you agree to go out with me,” he uttered, with erotic desires flickering in his eyes.

‘So this is it, he is trying to threaten me on my first day, who would go out with such an old man like him?’ I muttered to myself.

“I'm sorry sir, I can't go out with you, besides you're too old. Excuse me sir, I've got work to do.” I said as I sauntered away.

Unbeknownst to me, Brian was standing afar off, watching everything.

After the event of that week, the manager strolled into my office without knocking.

“With due respect sir, you could have sent for me. And not storm into my office like that.” I blurted out.

“ Am giving you the grace of today, come with me to the hotel or drop your resignation by Friday.” he threatened and walked away.

His words sliced through me leaving me speechless. I felt a wave of emotions wash over me. I needed the job, to pay for the rent, for my mother’s medication plus my son groceries.I couldn't trade this job for anything.

‘What if I give in to his demands and I become his s*x toy?, that can't guarantee my stay in this job. What if I report him to the president? What becomes of me after then’? I said, to myself. Indeed, I was stuck between the devil and the deep blue sea.

I arrived at the hotel, a bit late due to traffic. The manager had sent me the room number earlier. I took the flight of stairs up and strolled to the room. I felt shivers running down my spine at the thought of how this would unfold, but I pushed the thoughts asides.

As I stepped foot into the room and turned on the lights, I saw a dead body on the ground with a knife stabbed to his chest.

I felt my heart pulsating, I covered my mouth with my hands to restrain myself from shouting.

Before I could regain myself from the horrific scene, the door banged open, which made my heart thump. It was like someone was already waiting for me to enter.

I vigorously spun around to see the figure. It was a lady in her late 20’s.

“I.. I.. Did. Didn't do it.” I stuttered, trying to defend myself but my voice gave me away.

“Arhhhhhhhhhhhh……” the lady screamed at the top of her voice , which cause me to cringe in fear. Her screams attracted a lot of people.

“Please, please… you have to believe me. I just walked in here and saw him like this.” I said with tears streaming down my cheek.

“Call the cops, she's a murderer, she has to be arrested.” A voice echoed from the background.

I felt my entire world crumbling before me. How did I end up in this mess?. In no distant time, the cops had arrived. They cuffed me, and drove to the station.

The next day, Brian saw the already viral news, which was all over the media. He hurried to the station.

“Where is the lady who got arrested for murder? She's my employee.” He asked, in a stern tone.

“Please come with me to the DPO’s office sir.” a lady responded to him, while another cop came to get me.

Brian was seated with the DPO, as I was brought in with handcuffs. Immediately I saw him, I felt a knot tie in my stomach . My eyes widened in shock. He was truly, my son's father. His piercing blue eyes, his cologne which made my heart race faster than a stallion, was all too familiar.

“We found her fingerprint’s on the knife, but the CCTV footage show’s she was 20 minutes late after the murder took place.”

The DPO spoke up.

“Mr DPO, if that's the case, I doubt if she's the murderer. Someone might have framed her into this.” Brian replied.

“I'm sorry Mr. Brian, but at this point, she's the prime suspect as investigation is still on-going. The DPO added. “She'll have to remain in our custody till all this is over.”
