A new beginning

233 Words
A month later, all the paperwork was done. The transfer was official. I had to leave my class, my friends, and everything familiar. I was about to start a new chapter at a new school, surrounded by new faces. It was tough—but I had no choice. I told myself: Improvise. Adapt. Overcome. That became my new motto. The school I was transferred to was called Zenge Primary School. Thankfully, the teachers and students welcomed me warmly. I was given a seat next to a girl named Asian. She wasn’t very friendly—but I didn’t let it bother me. The first teacher to enter was our mathematics teacher, Mr. Jamal. He greeted me kindly and told the class, “We’ll be having a math test tomorrow. Please be prepared.” I tried talking to Asian, my deskmate, but she completely ignored me. I assumed it was just because I was new. That night, I did my usual chores at home and then studied some math questions before bed. The next day, I arrived at school, walked through the compound, and made my way to class. Our second lesson after English was mathematics. The bell rang, and class began. The English lesson was simple. I stayed focused and tried to keep my mind on the test. After lunch, Mr. Jamal called us back to class to give us our marked test papers.
