19. Words of Wisdom

I jump into the shower, washing my body as well as my hair. I dry off once I'm done and quickly apply some of the lotions and body sprays that came with the enormously lavish bathroom. I walk towards the closet to see what I can wear. Hmm, he said wear something nice, but he never specified what for. Maybe I can find something in the dresser. I walk over and begin rummaging through the clothes. I start to get frustrated and let out a loud groan. I hear two knocks at the door and groan even louder. "ughh I'm not ready yet. I'll be down in a second Savon." I go back to looking through clothes as the door slowly creeps open. I stop what I'm doing and look towards the door with a scold. A lady pops her head in, but she isn't the one that normally comes into my room. Her head turns in my direction as she scans the room. Once she spots me, her eyes light up, and a smile spreads wide across her face. "Hi! You must be Chloe. I've heard so much about you." She enters the room and closes the door behind her. She has dark brown hair and the prettiest green eyes with small specs gold that shimmer in the light. Her skin is white as snow, and she stands as tall as Savon. She's a real beauty, if I'm being honest, but what does she want? With my brow raised and my head tilted to the side, I give her a questioned look because I don't trust my tone to be friendly. I don't want to come off as rude, but people here need to learn what privacy is. If you're not invited in, that means don't f*****g come in. She stands a good distance from me as she takes me in and then realizes I'm wrapped in a towel. "Are you having difficulties getting dressed?" My brows furrow as she avoids the obvious question, or should I say questions, because more are developing the longer we sit here in a staring contest. "Um, can you answer the obvious questions first?" She smiles, showing her perfect teeth and luscious lips. "Please accept my apologizes, Miss Chloe. I'm Xen, Savon's cousin." She begins taking long strides, closing the distance between us. With her up close, I can see the resemblance. Her and Savon share some of the same facial features as well as height and build. "We grew up together and are really close, so when I heard he finally found his fated, I had to come congratulate him and to meet the lucky lady, of course." She folds her arms over her chest and leans against the dresser I'm currently looking through. "Now answer my question, do you need help getting dressed? You don't strike me as the prissy type, and you look a little too stressed to be just picking out clothes." I stare at her, confused yet intrigued, because how does she know? Am I that readable, and I really need to work on my facial expressions. They always give me away when my words don't. "Any suggestions?" I see no use in arguing with her. I need the help. Savon gave me fifteen minutes, and I'm way past that by now. She flashes that dazzling smile and goes to the closet. I watch her as she walks off, swaying her hips lightly. She holds all confidence, grace, and poise. She demands attention just by her presence. I'm staring at her like a love struck puppy, paralyzed by her aura and beauty. I wish to be confident like her, or to even have an ounce of her beauty. I want to be her. I need to be her. She turns and starts to walk back towards me, holding a long midnight blue strapless dress with a slit on the side. "Try this. It suits you." She hands me the dress and then goes to sit on the white plush couch that sits in the corner. "You're fifteen minutes are already up. Don't keep him waiting longer." I didn't realize I was still standing here. I command my legs to move, leading me to the bathroom to get dressed. When I put the dress on, to my surprise, it's actually comfortable. I love the way the silk feels on my skin. I walk out into the room and see Xen standing with a pair of silver sandles with thin straps that lace around the ankles. I go towards her to grab the shoes but she puts them behind her back just as I'm reaching for them. "Are those for you or me?" "They're for you, but we have to do something about your hair, or were you planning on walking out with bed head?" I grit my teet at her. She's just as annoying as Savon. "What games are you trying to play? And why am I even getting dressed up? Savon never said where we're going." "You're not going anywhere dear. There's a banquet today. We do it every year during the spring to celebrate our good fortunes and blessings from the Moon Goddess. Neighboring packs join us to celebrate as well, it's good for forming alliances." I roll my eyes. I've never been one for politics or for meet and greets. I don't do well around people due to my limited social interactions. "Why do I have to be there?" She guides me to the vanity mirror and sits me down. "Being the Luna comes with responsibilities my dear. Making social appearances are one of them." She takes the hair tie from out of my hair releasing the bundles of jet black hair that were previously in a bun. "Responsibilities I didn't ask for. I'm not and don't desire to be the Luna. I wish you people would just take no for an answer." She chuckles while brushing my hair and then grabs a few pins, putting them into my hair, giving me an sophisticated updo, adding to the elegance of the outfit she picked out. "Trust me, you're the one the for the job, you just don't see it yet, but give it time."
