I struggle to open my eyes against the blinding light. I’ve got one of those headaches – it’s unbelievable. Machines are beeping all around me, drawing my attention to my surroundings. It feels as though I’m in a hospital ward. I sit up slowly, my head spinning. I put my hand to my head and notice I’ve got a huge plaster on it. What’s happened to me? I stay seated; I feel too weak to get up. A few minutes later, a nurse comes into the room to take my vital signs. She removes the drip, which must have finished, and tells me a doctor will be coming to examine me shortly. I try to ask her why I’m here, but she seems to be struggling to answer me. She seems surprised by my questions and keeps asking me if I really don’t remember anything. I’m completely in the dark, not even knowing what I’m
