I DIDN’T KNOW WHAT to make of his email. Was he fishing for something? Did he show me something I wasn’t supposed to see or know about? By now, in retrospect, I knew that tunnel (and room) under the warehouse was most likely used for smuggling. Even though it had been sealed from entering into Mexico I was absolutely sure it wasn’t documented by any local law enforcement or government outfit. It was probably known by only a few and after serving its purpose was left to rot along with the buildings that sat above it. If in fact it is an undocumented tunnel, then it could easily be put back into use. And that could be bad news for anyone who knows about it. But there was something more to this. Art was spooked that night.
