I groan when I feel the sunlight on my face. I could have sworn I left the curtains shut last night. Maybe it was Alex again He does this a lot. I open my eyes to see Ryder standing there with a smirk and my eyes widen when I remember what happened last night. “Morning sleepyhead” he says much to my irritation. “ morning” I grumble with a glare. I look to the clock it’s seven am why the hell did he wake me up? Stupid morning people. At home everyone knew to leave me alone or deal with me being angry all day.

“Are you gonna get up?” He asks. I shake my head and roll on my side my back facing him. I hear a chuckle and suddenly I’m being tickled. I scream as I enter a laughing fit, batting at his hands to get them off of me. “You shouldn’t mess with an alpha sweetheart it’ll get you into trouble” I nod as I am still laughing too much to speak when he finally lets me go. I sit up and look at Ryder with a glare until I notice his darkened eyes. I look down and see my nightgown has slid up my thighs. I blush before pulling it down and heading into the bathroom to get dressed before anything happens.

I walk out in a loose blue tank top, white jean shorts and my studded wrist band. My hair is wavy and hangs to my shoulders while I put on my black knee high boots and just apply a bit of highlighter to look more natural. I walk over to Ryder and smile at him “what are we doing today love?” I ask. “Well I was thinking we could go to the mall today since I didn’t get to give you a present yet… but now I’m thinking we should spend the day here.” He says looking me up and down and making me blush. “You really don’t have to get me anything I’m happy just being with you.” I say looking down to hide my beat red face.

He laughs “your cute when you blush, but I’m still going to get you a present it was your birthday and your my princess so let’s go.” He grabs my hand without letting me say a word. He takes me to his car and helps me in while buckling my seat belt before rounding the car and getting in the drivers seat.

When we get to the mall Ryder open my door for me before grabbing my hand and going inside. This is the biggest mall I’ve ever seen. I’ve never been here before because it’s super expensive. My family isn’t poor but we definitely aren’t rich either. Ryder starts leading me around and by the time ten o’clock rolls around I have at least three shopping bags full of clothes that Ryder picked for me if I don’t stop him I’m pretty sure he will buy the whole damn store.

“Ryder why don’t we stop. We’ve already been to almost all the stores and you’ve already gotten me all these clothes…” I trail off not sure how he’ll react. He looks like I’ve grown three more heads “really you want to stop? But we just got here and I thought you liked shopping. Most girls do anyways.” He says incredulously.

“I do like shopping but we’ve been here hours already and I really don’t need anything else.” He seems reluctant but nods “fine but I am getting you one more thing while we are here for your present.” I look at him surprised “I thought that’s what the clothes are for.” He was mad when I tried to pay for them myself so I just let him do it and thought this was what he meant by shopping for my birthday. What does he mean?

“Oh no that was just because I want you to have clothes. You're my Luna now so you get whatever you want and you need to look pretty. This is your present.” He says leading me to the apple store my eyes widen even more if that’s possible. We walk in and he gives his name to the clerk in the front “Oh yes we have your package right here sir.” They hand him a big box and he leads me to a bench. I open the box and look at him incredulous “ you bought me a new laptop and iPhone?! Are you crazy?” He looks perplexed “of course. Don’t you like them I got a desk set up in the room for your computer and everything.” He looks…proud of himself? I will never understand his need to buy expensive things all the time. “Thank you baby but I really can’t take these.”

He looks sad “why not? I thought you'd like them. I wanted to get you a present” he pouts. Well now I feel bad. “Never mind thank you” this makes his face light up and he kisses me deeply “I already added everyone in the pack to your contacts in case you need them. And I added your friends and parents as well as your brother to your FaceTime on the computer.” I smile at this thoughtful man and thank him again but he just brushes it off.

We get to the house and he sets the WiFi up on the computer. I charge my new phone and download some games and transfer my playlists. After me and Ryder just cuddle till he decides it’s time to eat something and takes me down to the kitchen for lunch. We make simple ham and cheese sandwiches. I then look at Ryder. “Wanna take a walk?” He nods happily before kissing me and we head outside hand in hand.

We are walking through the front garden when I hear a high pitched voice ask “hey b***h what do you think you're doing with MY mate?” I growl and turn to see melody Ryder’s ex girlfriend was back from Virginia after two years. “Excuse me? Your mate who the hell do you think you are? He is my mate.” Ryder is just looking between the two of us completely lost on what to do. “You b***h he’s mine get away from him” she starts to walk towards us and I jump in front of Ryder my wolf taking over. Kira is pissed this is just great.

The she-wolf stalked over and tried to shove me but I caught her wrists and flipped her on her back onto the ground. she looked shocked then angry “baby are you gunna let her do that to me?” She turns to Ryder and fake pouts batting her eyelashes. I scoff and Ryder looks disgusted “she’s my mate not you melody let it go already we broke up three months before you left” she turned to me “if I can’t have him neither can you how dare you steal what was rightfully mine!” I don’t even think when she shifts and so do I while I let Kira take control.

We roll around on the ground snapping and snarling. I bite on her leg as she bites my ear I pull her body down. She claws and scratches but it’s not doing any good Kira and I are superior. Just when I'm about to put my muzzle to her neck and make her submit to end the fight she manages to get out from under me and tackle me she gets a good hold on my neck and starts shaking me so I get dizzy. Im losing a lot of blood and am barley awake at this point but i somehow swipe her feet out from under her before taring her throat out she falls lifeless to the ground I hear cheers. I didn’t even realize that the pack had come to see the fight and someone had even gotten it on live.

I don’t have time to process this however before the darkness takes over and I feint. I lost a lot of blood in the fight and this is my consequence for not being smarter and strategizing. At least if I die I can be happy knowing melody is gone and my mate is safe. she can never touch or mess with him ever again. that isn't a bad thought to die with. I defended someone I love. that's a more than worthy reason.
