CHAPTER 81 Mme. Abadie came up to the attic just before noon. She brought some cheese, bread, and water, and carried a bundle of clothes. Camille took the tray and set it on the floor beside Lucien. “We don’t know how to thank you, Mme. Abadie.” “No thanks are needed,” Mme. Abadie said, smiling and peeking through her round spectacles. “Not much of a lunch, but I’ll make a nice dinner. Do you have any wine left?” Lucien held up the bottle, nearly full. “We only had two glasses at dinner.” Camille hid a smile. He was so proud that he hadn’t drunk the wine.
