(Gabriella POV)
Later that day
Grayson and I were on our way to The Cedar Brook Vampire Clan to speak with them about their stance on the war that was approaching quickly. We still had many more supernaturals to visit. I looked back at Jordy who had fallen asleep in her car seat. I hated bringing her along but Greyson insisted we do. He said that they needed to see what we were fighting for. I knew he was right but it didn't make me any less fearful.
I placed my hand on Greyson's knee as he drove not taking his eyes off the road. He showed and grasped my hand, driving with the other. "I need to speak with you about something before we arrive.” His face turned serious. "Okay,” I said hesitantly. "I received a phone call last week from a woman named Rebecca. " he started. Why did that name sound familiar to me? "She is the Count's assistant.” He answered my question as if he knew what I was thinking. I gasped. "Why would she contact you?” I questioned. "Well, she was trying to reach you but no way was I letting her near you so I went myself and met with her,” he admitted. I felt angry that he had hidden this from me. "Why would you do that Greyson?” I questioned him. "We are stronger together you know that. You could have been ambushed and killed. Why did you hide this from me?” I cried the hurt making my stomach feel like it was in knots. "It wasn't my intention to hurt you, Gabriella. You know I would never intentionally do that. I just wanted to protect you and you have been under so much stress. I hated to add more to that.” He explained. "Just promise there will be no more hiding stuff from each other. We're in this together, okay?” I lowered my voice. I knew he loved and worried about me. I knew his instincts told him to protect me and for that, I couldn't blame him because I felt the same way about him. After all, I had a secret myself. One I could never tell him or he would forbid me to have any part in this war and we would lose. "I promise.” He agreed.
I leaned over and kissed his cheek and he smiled. "Okay now, what happened?” I asked him. "So, I met her at The Den. She explained that three years ago she and her fiancé Peter found out she had terminal cancer. They got the idea to have her turned by a supernatural to keep her from dying. A friend of hers worked reception at the council and got her the job as the count’s assistant. She said she had to do unspeakable things for and with him. He would feed her his blood to keep her healthy until finally, he turned her a few weeks ago. She plans to turn Peter as soon as she has lost the bloodlust. Anyway, she has hidden Peter from the count. She knows he would kill him if he knew about him. She wants the count dead but she is sired to him meaning if he does so does, so she. She needs an ancient ritual performed to sire her to another count. I spoke with the high priestess. It can be done if we find another count willing to accept her. And in return, she will help us. The most important is the blueprints she has of the councils’ offices. If we had those we could take them by surprise during the day when the count is asleep and kill them one by one. “he explained. I sat there trying to process everything. "We need to speak with the vampires today about accepting her as a sire. If they agree the priestess can perform the ritual immediately.” He explained. "So, not only do we have to get them to side with us and fight with us we need to get them to sire a newborn vampire into their clan?” I asked just making sure I understood. "Yes.” Grayson agreed.
An hour later we arrived at the Vampire Clan Mansion. It had taken us an additional twenty minutes because we had to stop to feed and change Jordy. This was her first time over the borders of the covens land so Greyson and I were on high alert. We didn't fear the supernaturals in our community hurting her, it was those that were watching us ready to spring any moment and devastate our lives. I got out of the car and lingered for Greyson to extract Jordy from her car seat. I looked up at the massive mansion. It sat in the gloom of a towering cliff encircled by dense forest. I'm assuming to shield themselves from the sun. Vampires are nocturnal. They rested during the day but sometimes awoke before the sun went down. It wasn't like you see in the Dracula films or goddess forbid that goddess awful Twilight series. They didn't glisten like they were covered in diamonds or erupt into flames and turn to ash. It was more like a 3rd-degree sunburn. Their skin would simmer and peel and be unbearable for a few days. They still recovered rapidly from it but not as they would with other wounds which mended almost instantly. Unless of course they were guillotined or impaled through the heart. 2 of the only ways to exterminate a vampire.
The mansion had to of been at least a football field long and half that in width. It was a dark stone gray color, and all the windows appeared to be tinted. There were 3 of what appeared to be steeples with an enclosure surrounded by windows. I couldn't comprehend why they would need an enclosure surrounded by windows that didn't appear to be tinted like the rest. Grayson saw me gazing at the steeples and looked up at them. "That's one of their most vicious punishments. They place the vampire in the room and lock it just before sunrise. They are left there to simmer and burn for five minutes, completely bare.” He clarified. I looked at him with wide eyes, "What could someone do to merit such a penalty?” I gasped. "Betrayal, or murder. Something like that. They won't exterminate their kind unless they commit high treason but the penalty is so severe no one dares break those ordinances.” He replied. I shuddered and took Jordy from his arms while he fetched her diaper bag. We made our way through the yard, up their stone pathway. The place was bizarre that was for sure. The mansion seemed to consume you as you got closer. The door was an enormous dark oak with the clan crest carved into it. Grayson glanced behind us to confirm the sun had fully set before he rang the bell. We waited for someone to respond but heard a buzzing noise. "Who may I ask, are you here to see?” a voice echoed through an intercom beside the door. " It is Greyson and Gabriella Brier. We are here to see the Count and Countess.” He spoke back into the intercom. The door buzzed and opened on its own. We paused for a moment and then I followed as Greyson led me through the door. We shut the door behind us and I looked around in stupefaction at the estate. It was the complete opposite on the inside that it had been on the outside. It was brilliant and lively. White marble tile and stunning crystal chandeliers was dangling from the ceiling. The furniture was cherry wood and conformed to the circular staircases that were on either side of us. There was an elevator and a sitting room. I was completely speechless. "Come this way.” Grayson took my hand our footsteps reverberating through the quiet of the estate. Beside the door of the sitting room was a sign that read "Guest Please linger here until you are attended to.” We moved into the sitting room. It had cream-colored furniture, and a bookshelf full of interesting books like Moby d**k, and The little princess. There was a flat-screen television, and chaise lounge chairs. We sat down on the love seat that was sitting in front of the immense tinted window.
We lingered for what seemed like forever but was honestly around an hour. We deduced they had just awoken and were getting ready. A lofty, lanky, aged gentleman in a suit arrived in the room. He had a handlebar mustache that shaded thin lips, and diminutive squinty eyes with a long pointy nose. His features were very odd and didn't appear to go together at all. His silver and black hair was slicked back on his head. He had opaque circles under his fierce blue eyes. That's when I recognized that he was no vampire he was a human. "If you'll follow me the host is awaiting you at the bar.” He gestured for us to flow him. His voice was unusually deep and he spoke with an English accent. "Why are there humans here?” I whispered to Greyson. "It's their choice to come here. Some addicted pheromones are transferred when you are bitten and some wishing to be transformed. It doesn't break the law as long as they desire it. " he explained. I couldn't comprehend why anyone would want to be bitten and used as a banquet. The man led us into a room that looked like an actual bar. There was a woman in an elegant dress singing on a small stage. There were small tables, and the lighting was obscured. There was a bar with a bartender administering drinks. It was as if they had their society inside the estate. "Do they have a grocery store too?” I quipped to Greyson. "More like a blood bank. Look at the glasses!” he pointed out. The wine glasses sitting in front of the few people dispersed about the space were full of a dense red liquid. I held back from reaching as the thought of drinking blood made me sick to my tummy. We walked upon three people sitting at a table behind a velvet curtain. The tables were black and the chairs were black with red leather cushions. Very gothic of them. We sat down on the opposite side facing them. I recollected their faces from the meeting of elders. The aging gentleman who was frail with jet black hair and passionate golden eyes was the elder Count Galician. The man sitting beside him with black hair golden eyes skin of marble and attractive bone structure was his son Gabriel. The woman beside him, who had lengthy blonde hair spectacular eyes just like the other two, high cheekbones, and full lips wCountess Alexandria. "Gabriella look at you. A mother to a a lovely baby girl. Can I hold her?” Alexandria asked. "Of course.” I answered and handed a smiling Jordan to her. "Your child is a hybrid ?” Elder Galician asked. "Yes she is a werewitch, as am I.” I smiled at him. "No dear, this child smells of more. I am getting far, vampire, wolf, and of course which. She is a Gemini Hybrid.” He informed me. "I'm sorry sir you must be mistaken. Neither Gabriella nor myself have any vampire or far in our genes.” Grayson Informed him. "May I Gabriella?” he reached out for my hand. I put my hand in his and he turned it over inhaling my scent directly over my wrist. "Oh Yes! She gets it from her mother.” He observed. "My mother was found by my father years ago. She has no memory of her past life, but due to her abilities we assumed which and werewolf. I've never heard of anyone with 4 different species.” I explained. "Your scent is very minimal and I hadn't smelled it until directly over your blood, but your child's. Your child's scent is very powerful. You must not tell anyone that she is a Gemini Hybrid.” He advised us. "What is a Gemini Hybrid?” I asked curiously. "It is a child born of 4 or more species. Only females are Gemini. Very powerful creatures when they come into their power. Abilities to heal and control elements. Ability to speak with the afterlife and see the future. There is not much a Gemini can't do. There have only been 2 others I've known of and both were captured and decapitated as children by the council. They knew once she came into her power she could easily overrule or even kill them.” He explained to me. I looked at Greyson both of our eyes huge. "No worries we will keep her safe. We would like to fight with you in the war.” He started. "Really.” I gasped. "That is what you came here for?” he questioned. "Yes Count along with one other thing. " Grayson Interjected. "I have a woman who can get me blueprints for the council councils. We could attack them one by one when they least expect it. We could take out Count Lucian during the day. But we have one problem. If we ki him we kill her. " Grayson explained. "So she is sired to him.” Gabriel stated. "Yes. She did so not thinking of death knocking on her door. She had terminal cancer and couldn't think of any other way. He does unspeakable things to his sires. She wants him gone. We need to find another count willing to let us transfer her sire bond to them. Eliza can perform the ritual. Rebecca the woman, is afraid he will find out about her fiancé any day now. She plans to change him but as we know she can't until the bloodlust has subsided. Would one of you blet her sire to you?” he asked them. "I would like to meet her. If I like her I will allow it.” Alexandria smiled down a Jordan playing with her. "I will arrange it.” Grayson agreed. "In the meantime, I will be coming up with a formula to mask Jordan’s scent. Never let anyone have the child's blood. If they feel it's the energy they will slaughter for more. " he advised us. "Thank you, Count Galician. Thank you so much.” I cried.
We had a drink with them and they all fussed over Jordan before we were finally able to leave to get Jordan in bed. Grayson and I got in the car after buckling Jordan in. "We did it, babe!” Grayson cheered. "This is going to work out. We are going to beat those assholes and be able to live in peace .” he laughed. "Yes, love. Yes, you are!” I smile at him, but in my head, I was thinking "Yes you and Jordan will go on and live happy peaceful fulfilled lives, and I will watch over you alongside the Goddess.”
