Chapter Twenty-Eight When I regained consciousness again, I found myself in a hotel room. It was a double. Charlie sat in the desk chair, reading a book. "Where are we?" I tried to ask, but my mouth and throat were so dry, it came out as a whisper. "Ah, good morning at last," Charlie said. "There is water on the bedside table just there, and I have laid out clothes for you in the bathroom. Clean yourself up. We have time for breakfast before the meeting. Do you fancy some eggs?" My hands were free. I sat up. Twisted the lid off the plastic bottle of overpriced tap water. Gulped down the whole thing without taking a breath. As the liquid passed through, my mouth went from desert-dry to gummy and then finally back to normal wet. "You left Lilly chained up in that freezer?" "Of course.
