Chapter Six Even before we contacted the Elders, Bree and I had talked through a plan. We were operating on the assumption that one of the Elders had been turned. We needed the Elders to put us in touch with the keymasters — and to fund our little expedition — but success depended on their not knowing exactly where we were going. Deceiving your enemies is just another day on the job. Having to deceive your friends is both difficult and depressing. We picked up our identity papers from the dead drop early the next morning.
