Chapter Eight Mrs. Baker’s white-gloved hand turned the pages of the Piero Codex with careful reverence. Her medieval Latin was a lot better than mine, so she took the lead locating and translating the spells we wanted. She needed only a few minutes. I looked over her shoulder, watching for any mistakes I might be able to correct. She didn’t make any. When we had the spell translated, we read over it, absorbing the concepts.
