Chapter 22 Saturday Megan was awakened the next morning by a loud cry from the peacocks that were strutting openly on Gwendolyn's lawn. With one eye opened, she gave a little groan and understood why others in the neighborhood wanted the peacocks removed. Their cry was loud and ugly. Not the sweet twittering of cardinals or the melodies of the mocking birds she was used to back home. Another cry from the birds below convinced Megan that there was no going back to sleep. Grumpily, she pushed back the covers and made her way to the guest bathroom where she could take a shower and get ready for the day.
