Alex stirred from sleep instantly and for a second, he thought I had woken up from a nightmare. I saw the confusion in his eyes as he sat up, reaching for me, then his gaze followed mine to the phone lying on the bed.
“What’s wrong?” he asked sharply.
I couldn’t speak. My fingers trembled as I pointed at the phone.
He picked up the phone and my gaze shifted to his face. Colour drained from his face as he read the headlines.
