Chapter 9
Pari Malik returns to Abby’ Goodwin’s cottage in The Ring. She knows from text messages that Kawaii Hale drove Abby home and they picked up carry-out for the three of them to have a simple, late dinner of noodles, vegetables, and rice. All three are ravished and hardly converse until they have finished their meal. Abby, wearing a fresh coat of pink lipstick, pours a glass of red wine for herself and Kawaii, while Pari chooses a glass of sparkling water.
“Did you hear laughter? Running footsteps?” Kawaii shows no alarm hearing Abby recount her bump in the darkness of the Diamond Head tunnel earlier in the day.
“Nothing at all,” Abby answers. “I was the one who started running!”
“If there was someone in the tunnel with you and Pari, it was just a kid,” Kawaii says, noncha
