ABBY FOLLOWS CAMILA up a narrow stairway lined with gothic-designed ornamentation on its railings to a sitting room at the top of her slender tower. The room is quite small, but feels spacious because of the open-timber ceiling and natural light from the over-sized windows facing south to the hillock and north to the sea. There is just enough room for two comfortable sitting chairs and a small coffee table by the north-facing window and a daybed under the south-facing window. Abby knows this is where Camila often delights in reading and where Miguel sometimes takes daytime naps. This morning, it is ideal for a private conversation.
